Chapter 127
Over the next few days, Victoria stayed at the hospital to take care of Samuel. She brought him tea, fetched his medication, and generally acted like a dedicated caregiver.
The only thing she felt too embarrassed to help with was assisting Samuel to the bathroom, so she left that to the hospital staff.
When they had free time, Victoria and Samuel would each take a sketchbook and draw together.
Samuel would give Victoria tips on her technique, and she listened intently, always eager to learn. These peaceful days brought her immense joy.
Victoria even started to think that life should be this simple and pure.
But then her vacation ended, and she had to return to work.
She patiently explained everything to the caregiver who would be taking over.
Samuel watched her quietly as she went over the details with the caregiver.
When she finished, he asked the caregiver to leave before speaking to Victoria. "Victoria, you don't need to worry about me. Just take care of yourself."
Victoria nodded. "You focus on getting better. I'll come visit whenever I can."
"Victoria." Samuel grabbed her arm, looking at her intently. "I..."
Victoria's heart skipped a beat. She quickly pulled her hand back and changed the subject. "I need to go pack. I have work tomorrow."
Samuel gave a bitter smile. "Don't be scared. I just have some good news for you."
Victoria looked puzzled. "What good news?"
Samuel lowered his gaze and said softly, "You've been upset about dropping out of college, right? Because you won the gold medal at the art association last time, I applied for you to take the entrance exam at the University of Aesthetics Shine. If you pass, you'll be a full-fledged student there."
Victoria was stunned. She could hardly believe her ears. "Samuel, is this for real?"
Samuel smiled faintly and held her hand. "Have I ever lied to you?"
Victoria shook her head vigorously. "No!"
Then she seemed to remember something. "But what about my job at Starry Studio Gallery?"
"Don't worry. This entrance exam is for outstanding talents in the community. You just need to take online courses, attend a few mandatory classes on weekends, and pass the exams at the end of the term."
Victoria hugged Samuel tightly, her eyes brimming with excitement. "That's amazing! Thank you, Samuel!"
"You're silly." Samuel ruffled her hair. "You don't need to thank me. I just want you to be happy."
Victoria stared at Samuel.
His handsome face was filled with deep care and affection.
From the beginning, he had always been there for her, looking out for her, thinking of everything.
And she had been wasting her time being sad over William, who never loved her and always mistreated her.
Thinking of this, her eyes reddened, and she felt a sharp pang in her nose. She couldn't help but throw herself into Samuel's arms.
"Samuel, why are you so good to me?"
Feeling the wetness on his chest, Samuel stiffened, then gently patted her back to comfort her. "Don't cry. I hate seeing you cry."
Victoria sniffled, as if making a firm decision. She looked up, trying to hold back her tears. "Samuel, let's be together."
Samuel's eyes widened in disbelief.
His deep voice broke the silence. "Victoria, did you just say..."
Victoria bit her lip and nodded firmly. "Yeah, I want to be with you."
Samuel was taken aback for a moment, then he responded with a bitter smile. "You don't have to be with me just because you feel grateful."
Victoria looked at him steadily and shook her head. "I'm not forcing myself. Besides my dad, you're the only one who truly cares about me and looks out for me."
She paused, her voice a bit hoarse. "You know I once sold myself for money, but you never judged me. You stood by me when I needed help the most. Samuel, if I miss out on you, I'll regret it."
Samuel's eyes darkened as he gazed into Victoria's eyes, remaining silent for a long time.
For a moment, his heart raced inexplicably.
He knew that the connection between Victoria and William wouldn't be easily severed.
But right now, he wanted to take a chance, even if the outcome wasn't what he hoped for.
He slowly pulled Victoria into his arms, his deep voice gentle. "Alright, let's give it a try. If you find that you still don't like me, you can leave anytime, and I won't stop you."
"Okay." Victoria nestled obediently in his arms.
They held each other in silence, neither saying a word.
After a while, Victoria was the first to let go. "I have to go. You get some rest."
"Alright, take care."
Lyanna glanced at William, who was sitting in first class with a dark expression, and cautiously asked Harry, who was sitting next to her, "Harry, what's wrong with William? He looks really upset."
Harry looked at William's grim face.
Of course, he knew what was going on.
His "kitten" had run off to "someone else's house", and it had infuriated him.
But Harry wasn't about to tell Lyanna that! "Probably some tough issues at the company. Don't ask too much."
Lyanna nodded and didn't dare ask more.
Ever since William had confronted her in her room last time, she had been too scared to get close to him.
The plane landed smoothly at Silvermist City International Airport.
William disembarked with a scowl on his face.
He walked out of the airport with a cold expression, not letting Harry follow him. He simply ordered, "Find out what she's been up to since she got back!"
The "she" he referred to was none other than Victoria.
Harry sighed and nodded respectfully. "Yes, Mr. Scott."
Then he got into another car.
Seeing William about to leave, Lyanna hurried after him, asking tentatively, "William, will you take me home?"
William ignored her, flooring the gas pedal.
The black Maybach roared away like a gust of wind.
Lyanna was left standing awkwardly in the cold wind.
She bit her lip, her eyes red as she watched the car speed away.
Before William's car even reached Victoria's building, Harry had already gathered the information.
In Silvermist City, where he worked in the media industry, information was easy to come by.
Tracking Victoria's movements was a piece of cake.
He found out everything, including how Victoria had been diligently taking care of Samuel in the hospital and even the hug they shared in the hospital room.
