Chapter 153
William's eyes suddenly turned icy as he snapped, "Enough!"
He glared at Alice with a cold expression. "You can't force feelings. I don't love you, and dragging this out won't help either of us. If you keep bugging me, don't blame me for handing you over to your stepmother, Willow. I'm sure she and Ella would love that."
Alice's whole body trembled at his words, and she stared at William in disbelief.
She shivered, knowing that once William made up his mind, he wouldn't change it.
The memory of being watched and controlled abroad still terrified her.
To get rid of her, he could be so heartless.
As Daisy pushed the door open, Alice ran out, heartbroken and in tears.
Daisy frowned, looking at the weak William on the hospital bed. "What happened to her? Why is she crying so hard?"
William furrowed his brow and said indifferently, "I broke up with her."
Daisy raised an eyebrow. "Really?"
"Yeah."
"Good." Daisy shrugged and sighed. "You two were never right for each other. Why torture yourselves by staying together?"
Then, as if remembering something, Daisy's eyes sharpened. She walked quickly to William's bedside and jabbed his shoulder angrily. "You! You never let anyone rest easy! Playing with your life like that, do you know how worried I was? If something happened to you, how would I explain it to your deceased parents?"
Her eyes reddened, and her voice choked with emotion.
William had never seen Daisy like this, and he felt a pang of guilt.
For the past ten years, Daisy had been more than a mother to him, caring for him meticulously.
But he was too stubborn, always making Daisy worry.
He pressed his lips together and softly reassured her, "Aunt Daisy, I promise I won't do anything foolish again."
Daisy snorted. "Save those promises. I don't buy it."
William fell silent.
He took a deep breath and softened his voice. "Aunt Daisy, I really know I was wrong. I know you mean well, and I've let you down."
Daisy shook her head, her eyes moist. "Silly boy, you're my nephew. I just want the best for you."
She wiped away her tears and smiled. "Alright, take care of yourself. I have to go to the company and hold down the fort for you."
She stood up, ready to leave.
"Aunt Daisy!" William called out, his tone hesitant. "Um..."
Daisy paused and looked back at William.
William seemed to want to say something but fell silent again.
Seeing his hesitation, Daisy knew what he was thinking. She said softly, "I know you want to ask about Victoria."
She paused, then added, "Don't worry. She's always been strong. She went to work as usual today."
William was taken aback, a hint of bitterness on his face. "That's good."
Daisy sighed at his expression. "William, she doesn't know you're hurt. I called her dad, and he was adamant about not letting you disrupt her life anymore. Give each other some space."
William's eyes dimmed, and he clenched the blanket tightly. After a long silence, he said in a low voice, "I understand, Aunt Daisy. I won't bother her again."
She must hate him.
If he were in her shoes, he'd want to kill the person who treated him like that.
William closed his eyes, exhausted, lying on the bed, his face even paler than before.
Daisy looked at his desolate expression, feeling a pang of sorrow. She hesitated but then advised, "William, there are too many obstacles between you and Victoria. It's not something that can be resolved quickly. If you really care about her, focus on getting better first, then think about other things."
"I get it," William replied, his voice muffled.
Daisy patted his back. "I'll head to the company now. I'll come back to see you after the afternoon meeting."
With that, she turned and left the room.
After Daisy left, the room fell into a brief silence.
Soon, hurried footsteps approached, and Harry rushed into the room.
He stopped abruptly at the door, his lips trembling as if he had something difficult to say.
William glanced at him, his gaze indifferent. Seeing Harry's hesitation, he felt a surge of impatience. "Spit it out."
Harry swallowed hard and walked to the bedside, pulling out his phone. He handed it to William, showing him Victoria's latest post. "Mr. Scott, you should see this."
William frowned and reached for the phone. As soon as he saw the screen, his expression froze.
On the screen, Victoria was leaning intimately on Samuel's shoulder, smiling sweetly, looking happy and beautiful.
The caption read: [Boyfriend.]
It felt like an invisible hand was squeezing his heart, the pain spreading through his body, making it hard to breathe.
His knuckles turned white as he gripped the phone, veins bulging from the effort.
Harry, seeing his reaction, was startled and quickly reminded him, "Mr. Scott, the doctor warned you not to get upset. If your wound reopens, it'll be trouble."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a loud crash. The phone fell from William's hand, shattering on the floor.
Harry tried to catch it but missed, looking at the broken pieces with a pained expression.
It was his phone, and this was the umpteenth one William had broken.
William stared at the shattered phone, his gaze dark and brooding.
"Mr. Scott!" Harry called out cautiously, then hesitantly added, "The bodyguards we sent to protect Ms. Carter reported that Samuel took her out for dinner with roses and went into her house when he dropped her off."
His voice grew quieter, almost inaudible by the last few words, not daring to look at William's face.
William's face turned ashen, the light in his eyes fading, replaced by endless pain and despair.
His fists clenched tightly, knuckles white from the pressure, his body trembling uncontrollably.
A mouthful of blood spurted from his mouth, staining the white sheets with a glaring red.
"Mr. Scott!" Harry's eyes widened in horror as he scrambled to press the call button, but William stopped him.
William wiped the blood from his mouth, his eyes empty, his voice hoarse and weak. "Leave. Let me be alone."
