Chapter 172

Victoria was floored.

Even though she had long suspected that Daisy and Alvin had something going on, hearing Daisy come right out and say it still hit her hard.

"What about my dad? What does he think?"

Daisy's eyes clouded over, her face full of sorrow. "Your dad was actually my first love. Back then, I used to go with my brother and sister-in-law, William's parents, to check on the bridge construction. Your dad was a brilliant designer, always so knowledgeable, gentle, and polite to everyone. He was super dedicated, often working late into the night."

As Daisy reminisced, a small smile crept onto her lips.

"The more time I spent with him, the more I liked him. But I knew he was married, so I never dared to show my feelings. Later, I accidentally found out he was going through a divorce with your mom. I admit I was a bit happy then. But when I learned they didn't go through with it, I gave up. After that, the bridge collapsed, and my brother and sister-in-law died in the accident. I had to help manage the company and take care of William, so I gradually drifted apart from your dad."

Daisy paused, seemingly lost in the past.

"Two years ago, I heard your dad was being blamed for the bridge collapse. I rushed to the detention center to see him. I never believed it was his fault, but for some reason, he admitted it was. Recently, when I told him you were going to donate a kidney to your mom, he got anxious. With William's and my help, we managed to get him out on parole."

Victoria felt a whirlwind of emotions after hearing Daisy's explanation.

So, Alvin and the Scott family had such a deep connection.

"I came to Xandria with your dad to help him secure the old town renovation project. I never expected things to turn out like this. It's all my fault." Daisy looked at Victoria with guilt, gently stroking her hair. "Victoria, I'm sorry."

Victoria shook her head and sighed softly. "This isn't your fault. It's my dad's choice."

Daisy's hand slowly dropped, her gaze shifting to the window. "You know, Victoria, when your parents were going through their divorce, I proposed to your dad, but he turned me down."

Victoria was taken aback, looking at Daisy in surprise.

Daisy gave a bitter smile and continued, "I was young and impulsive then, completely in love with him. I thought as long as two people loved each other, nothing could stand in their way. I didn't care about the difference in our family status or societal views. I even planned to run away with him and live a life just for us."

Her eyes softened, as if she was seeing her brave, younger self again.

"But he refused me outright. He said he had responsibilities and a family to take care of. He couldn't be so reckless."

Daisy's voice grew quieter, tinged with sadness. "I was so angry and hurt then, thinking he didn't understand my feelings. I wanted to forget him completely, but it wasn't that easy."

Victoria listened quietly, feeling a pang of sorrow in her heart.

She had never imagined that Alvin and Daisy had such a deep and complicated relationship.

Daisy sighed softly and turned to Victoria. "Victoria, I know it might be a weird time to say this, but I want you to know that my feelings for your dad have never changed. If he comes back safely this time, I'll do whatever it takes to be with him."

Victoria couldn't help but laugh, looking at Daisy with a smile. "Alright, I'll be on your side then."

Daisy playfully tapped her on the head. "You little rascal!"

Victoria chuckled and suddenly said, "Ms. Scott, you must be hungry. We don't know how long we'll have to wait tonight. I'll go to the resort's restaurant and get us something to eat."

Daisy thought for a moment and agreed. They needed their strength for what lay ahead.

She nodded. "Alright, I'll go with you."

"No need. You stay here and rest. The resort has security patrolling everywhere. It's safe. You haven't slept for a day and a night. You need to rest."

Daisy hesitated but eventually nodded, reminding her, "Be careful and come back soon."

Victoria left the room and headed to the restaurant.

As she reached a corner, she was about to step forward when she noticed a woman approaching.

The woman wore a brightly colored dress adorned with intricate golden patterns. A belt studded with colorful gems accentuated her graceful figure.

Her long, shiny hair was loosely tied up, with a few strands falling around her slender neck.

She wore large silver earrings that swayed with her movements, making a crisp sound.

She was strikingly beautiful.

The woman stopped about two feet from Victoria, scrutinizing her.

Victoria frowned and took a cautious step back, trying to avoid her.

But the woman seemed to anticipate her move, quickly stepping to block her path, staring intently at her. "So pretty, no wonder men like you."

Victoria shivered, finding the woman's behavior extremely odd. Alarm bells rang in her mind, and she wanted to return to the room.

"Move, I need to go back."

The woman didn't budge, a strange smile on her lips. "Don't blame me, blame Louie for liking you."

Victoria's heart tightened. Before she could react, a hand covered her mouth and nose from behind.

A pungent smell hit her.

Ether!

Victoria struggled desperately, trying to pry the hand away and kicking wildly.

But gradually, her strength waned, and her vision blurred. Finally, she went limp and passed out.

When she came to, her head was throbbing painfully.

She opened her eyes with difficulty and found herself in a dim room, the air damp and musty.

Moss covered the walls, and old, broken items were scattered in the corners. The only window was boarded up, letting in no light.

Terrified, Victoria tried to get up, only to realize her hands and feet were tightly bound.

"Help!" she tried to shout, but her throat felt like it was on fire, her voice hoarse and weak.
