Chapter 220
Every line, every color in the paintings he made for her spoke of his love and indulgence. Whenever she saw them, her heart stirred.
He had put in so much effort, but she had let him down.
"Alright," Victoria agreed, "I'll give it a shot."
Victoria's fingertips turned white from gripping the edge of the canvas too tightly. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her emotions before looking back at the stage where the handsome couple stood.
Today, she was going to return all his deep feelings to him.
Hannah's lips curled into a slight smirk, a hint of mockery in her eyes.
Victoria lowered her head and began to draw, her pencil moving across the pristine paper.
The image gradually took shape, each stroke outlining Samuel's handsome features, his gentle, smiling eyes, and his hand entwined with Hannah's, both wearing their engagement rings.
Outside the hotel, a swarm of reporters had gathered.
William had publicly announced that Victoria was his girlfriend, and the news had spread like wildfire across social media platforms. The headlines were everywhere.
Major news outlets had picked up the story, leaving no room for clarification or retraction.
Victoria had anticipated some reporters, but she hadn't expected this many!
But she had no time to worry about them now. She was anxiously making a phone call.
"Dad, we're not dating. He was just helping me out. Really, we're not! I swear!"
On the other end, Alvin's tone was firm and resolute. He was fine with Victoria dating anyone she wanted, except William!
No matter what, he would never allow Victoria to get involved with William! Even if it cost him his life, even if he ended up in prison again, he would never let Victoria and William have any entanglements!
Victoria's heart tightened, and she walked out with her head down, her voice weak, "Dad, don't worry. I remember what I promised you."
She hung up, feeling utterly dejected.
As soon as Victoria stepped out of the hotel, the reporters swarmed her like sharks smelling blood.
She had already prepared a statement to clarify her relationship with William, but a sleek, imposing black Range Rover suddenly pulled up in front of her.
The door swung open, and William got out, grabbing her without a word and shoving her into the passenger seat.
"William! I didn't say I was going with you!"
The only response was the heavy slam of the car door.
William quickly locked the doors and hit the gas, speeding away from the reporters.
Victoria glared at him, both angry and anxious, "Are you trying to make things worse?"
William's expression was equally grim, a cold smile playing on his lips, his words dripping with sarcasm, "His engagement upset you that much?"
Victoria frowned, "I'm talking about what just happened."
"Drawing at your ex's engagement party, and so seriously too. You looked like you were about to cry. How much do you still like him? Are you planning to elope with him?"
Hearing his increasingly outrageous accusations, Victoria's face turned cold, and she snapped back, "Yeah, I still like him! I can't stand seeing him in trouble! So what?"
She was just going along with his words, but William's reaction was intense. He slammed on the gas, the car speeding wildly down the road.
The winding mountain road and the increasing speed made the car tilt dangerously at every turn.
Victoria was terrified, clutching the handle tightly, her voice trembling, "Stop! Please stop!"
William seemed not to hear, alternating between the gas and brake pedals, his eyes dark and fixed on the road ahead.
"William! You're crazy! You might not care about your life, but I don't want to die!"
William finally reacted. "Do you still like him?" he asked coldly.
"Whether I like him or not is none of your business!"
The car swerved sharply, throwing Victoria against the door, her forehead hitting the window hard.
"I'm asking you one last time, do you still like him?"
The tires screeched against the pavement, making a piercing noise.
"You're insane! No, I don't like him anymore! I don't like him!" Victoria screamed.
But William didn't slow down; instead, he drove even faster, more recklessly.
She was terrified, tears streaming down her face, her voice choked and hoarse, "Please, stop. I'm begging you."
William's eyes were cold, showing no sign of relenting. He glanced at the rearview mirror and said in a low voice, "Stop crying. Look in the mirror."
Victoria followed his gaze, looking into the rearview mirror. There were only a few cars on the road, but she noticed something unusual: two black sedans were tailing them closely, even through multiple turns.
Her heart sank. Her first thought was that they were persistent reporters.
But on second thought, it didn't seem right. Reporters wouldn't dare provoke William like this unless they wanted to ruin their careers.
Seeing her confusion, William's lips curled into a cold smile, his eyes fierce, "It seems some people can't wait any longer."
Victoria looked at his profile, completely puzzled.
Some people? Was he talking about business rivals?
At that moment, more cars appeared in the rearview mirror, all black, like dark phantoms closing in on them.
Samuel's engagement party was in the suburbs, and the road was desolate, lined with a few abandoned factories, giving off an eerie vibe.
William frowned slightly. The other side was coming on strong, clearly prepared.
He gritted his teeth and muttered, "Looks like he's serious this time."
Despite the disdain in his voice, Victoria could sense that the situation was serious.
She sat up straight, nervously looking back at the pursuing cars, and asked anxiously, "What do we do now?"
Before she could finish, the car jolted violently, throwing her against the door again, making her cry out in pain.
She looked ahead and saw two large trucks blocking the road at an intersection, completely cutting off their path.
