Chapter 225

Victoria stood frozen, her mind racing.

"If you keep seeing him, you're no daughter of mine!" Alvin shouted before storming upstairs.

Victoria stared at the empty living room, tears streaming down her face.

After a moment, she wiped her tears away, grabbed her bag, and ran out of the house.

As soon as she stepped outside, her tense nerves finally relaxed. She kept her head down, walking aimlessly, tears flowing uncontrollably, occasionally wiping them away with her hand.

"Why are you crying?"

The sudden voice startled her. She looked up in surprise.

William, frowning, exhaled a puff of smoke, then stubbed out his cigarette. He walked over quickly, taking off his jacket and draping it over her shoulders.

Seeing her face, his expression darkened. "Did Alvin hit you?"

Before she could respond, his eyes turned cold, and he started to march back towards the house to confront Alvin.

He couldn't bear to hurt Victoria, and Alvin dared to lay a hand on her?

Victoria snapped out of her daze and grabbed his arm, shouting angrily, "Can you stop causing trouble for me? I'm in this mess because of you!"

William halted.

"I've paid my dues, haven't I? I'm begging you, disappear from my life! I don't want to see you again! I don't want any more ties with you. Just let me go. Whoever you like, whoever you want as your girlfriend, it's none of my business!"

She clutched his collar, her emotions spiraling out of control. "Am I that unlucky? Why do you treat me like this? I've given you everything I could, almost lost my life for you multiple times. I just want a peaceful life now. Why can't you let me go? Why?"

She cried until she had no strength left, collapsing to the ground, hugging herself tightly, gasping for breath.

William watched her quietly for a while, then turned and left.

Soon, his car started and slowly drove out of her blurred vision.

William had his pride, more so than most men.

The fact that he didn't get angry at her accusations was already remarkable.

However, Victoria's mood didn't improve with his departure. Instead, she felt even more oppressed, a wave of indescribable loss washing over her.

As Victoria wished, her life returned to calm.

Even the dramatic moment when William declared their relationship at Samuel's engagement party, along with the subsequent chase, didn't stir up much of a buzz online.

When the hospital called, Victoria hesitated for a moment but decided to go.

Nora's attending physician, Dr. Myers, looked serious as he spoke to them. "Bobby ultimately refused."

Victoria wasn't surprised. It would have been strange if Bobby had agreed.

In this regard, Bobby was no match for Ella.

Bobby would rather go back to prison than harm himself for Nora, while Ella was willing to give Alice a kidney for William. Such courage wasn't common, though it wasn't something to be encouraged. After all, there weren't many people "foolish" enough to do that.

"Finding a suitable kidney donor is very unlikely. Given Nora's current condition, she won't last long. So, I hope you can prepare yourselves mentally."

Leaving the doctor's office, Victoria wore a grim expression.

No matter how bad Nora was, she was still her mother. Facing life and death, how could she not worry?

Victoria stood outside Nora's hospital room for a long time before slowly pushing the door open.

Nora looked extremely haggard. Without makeup, her face seemed to have aged decades, her cheeks sunken, skin dull, dark circles under her eyes, and her body emaciated.

Victoria pulled up a chair and sat quietly by the bed.

After a while, Nora opened her eyes. Seeing Victoria, the hope in her eyes quickly faded.

"Thought it was Bobby?"

Victoria's words made Nora agitated, but her voice was still weak and hoarse. "What are you doing here? Checking if I'm dead? Stop pretending to care. Get out, get out!"

Victoria smiled wryly. Even now, she had the strength to curse her, showing how much she truly hated her.

"Dr. Myers is already looking for a kidney donor for you," Victoria said calmly.

Nora sneered. "Why bother? You're the perfect match. Give me your kidney, and I'll live."

Victoria raised an eyebrow. "Why not Bobby?"

"He's different from you! He's the product of my true love. He's suffered so much. How can you bear to hurt him? I'm right, aren't I? You're the most heartless. You'd let your own mother die!"

She cursed viciously, as if all her misfortunes were Victoria's fault.

Victoria didn't argue, used to it by now.

When Nora was tired of cursing, Victoria even fetched her a glass of water, inserting a straw and handing it over.

"I don't need your fake concern!" Nora said, but when Victoria brought the straw to her lips, she couldn't help but drink a few sips.

Her throat soothed, she continued cursing.

Victoria put down the glass, went to the bathroom, and got a towel to gently wipe her down.

"Don't think I'll forgive you for this! I'll tell everyone you're a monster, letting me die when you could save me! You want me dead. You're a murderer!"

Victoria ignored her, continuing to wipe her down.

Maybe her silence angered Nora. Nora raised her hand to hit her, but Victoria easily caught it and pressed it down.

"Monster! You're a curse! If it weren't for you..."

Victoria could recite the rest of her words by heart, but she remained silent.

Then, she found a clean hospital gown and helped her change.

Nora loved beauty and cleanliness, but who cared about that in the hospital? Even hired caregivers couldn't be so meticulous.

Despite Victoria's care, Nora kept cursing.

Finally, Victoria stopped and looked at her. "Does humiliating me make you feel better?"

Nora glared at her, tears welling up. "If it weren't for you, would I be in this state? It's all your fault! You're a jinx!"

Watching Nora's tears, Victoria couldn't tell if she was mourning her lost glory or her harsh fate.

But it didn't matter anymore.

After finishing her care, Victoria faced her calmly. "What I'm about to say will be our last conversation."
