Chapter 239

"It's history," Victoria corrected quickly.

William took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm inside him.

He soon smiled again. "Alright then, let's settle the score."

Victoria eyed him warily. "Settle what score? I already repaid you for your help."

She clearly remembered the days she helped him with his projects. Was he just part of her past now?

William's eyes darkened.

"I've always said my time is valuable, charged by the second. I wasn't exaggerating, was I?"

"No."

"I interrupted an important meeting and rushed here. How do you plan to make up for my loss?"

"Name your price." Victoria thought this was fair enough.

William narrowed his eyes and chuckled softly. "The projects you worked on must have been pretty profitable, right? You must have made a lot of money."

He was right. With Alvin's industry connections, Victoria's annual income was quite substantial. Despite her modest spending habits, she was actually quite wealthy.

"But I'm not looking for financial compensation." William got straight to the point. "Infinity Unity Group needs a display designer."

Victoria looked at him skeptically. "A company that big needs a designer?"

"Exactly. Because the company is large and has many projects, we need to expand the team," he replied without missing a beat. "Instead of wasting money hiring externally, why not have you join us?"

Victoria frowned. "I haven't graduated yet, no degree."

"I don't mind."

"I lack experience, can't handle it."

"You helped Marcella shine at the exchange event. Don't be modest. Our company needs talent like you. To become a top display designer, you need the platform I can provide."

Victoria's mind was in turmoil. William was still the same; he knew how to control her, knew what she wanted and cared about!

Victoria indeed aspired to be an outstanding display designer. Her years at Starry Studio Gallery had fueled her passion for display design. Compared to Dreamscape Construction, Infinity Unity Group, a Fortune 500 company, undoubtedly offered more opportunities to showcase her talents.

But she looked at William and after a moment said, "I don't want to mix business with personal matters."

"Funny, neither do I." William lazily lowered his eyes. "I've always said I'm a businessman, I don't do unprofitable deals. In business, having you work for my company is the best use of resources, maximizing benefits. But I don't know what you are expecting?"

"Who's expecting anything?" Victoria didn't expect that after years apart, William had learned to turn the tables on her!

Ignoring her reaction, William continued, "You don't need to worry. To me, you're just someone who can save me money. Plus, you don't belong to any faction, your background is clean, I can use you with peace of mind."

Victoria glared at him. "What if I don't agree?"

"You will," William said confidently. "You love your work too much to pass up this opportunity. After all, none of the companies you currently have access to can compare to Infinity Unity Group."

Victoria looked away. Damn it, he was right.

"I need to think about it." She was still cautious.

"Don't keep me waiting too long, I don't have much patience."

Just then, a nurse came in to notify Victoria it was time for a check-up.

William stood up and walked over to her, extending a hand.

Victoria stared at it for a moment, then turned away, pretending not to see it. She stood up and said, "I can manage on my own, no need to trouble you."

After all, he was too "expensive" for her to afford!

William smirked. "Who else should you trouble if not your 'honey'?"

Victoria's face turned red uncontrollably. "I've already explained everything."

He didn't say anything, but grabbed her wrist. "The doctor said you're too weak. If no one's around, who knows what might happen?"

She was puzzled. "Did the doctor really say that?"

"Want me to bring him over so you can ask yourself?"

"No need." Victoria's heart raced and her breathing became uneven as they stood close together.

She silently cursed herself for being so weak. Just a moment ago, she was so confident, but now, just because he got close, she was flustered.

William, on the other hand, showed no emotion on his face. His eyes remained deep and dark. But the moment he touched her, it felt like something lightly pricked his heart, a bit numb, with a faint, almost imperceptible pain.

This feeling was intoxicating. He didn't want to let go of her wrist, his fingers unconsciously tightening slightly, wanting to hold on tighter.

She let out a low cry.

William raised an eyebrow. "Did I hurt you?"

He loosened his grip and glanced at her wrist, noticing a faint scar. His brows furrowed even more.

Victoria had no idea what he was thinking. She just felt uncomfortable. Finally, they reached the hallway outside the room, and she looked up to see a very familiar face.

Alice seemed to have rushed over from somewhere, standing anxiously at the door. The first thing she saw was the two of them walking closely together.

Victoria hadn't expected to see Alice here. But thinking about Alice's obsession with William, it wasn't surprising she followed him here, especially with Victoria around. Her alarm bells must be ringing.

Honestly, Victoria never liked Alice. Remembering the things Alice had done, Victoria used to avoid her as much as possible. She couldn't afford to provoke her, so she stayed away.

But things were different now.

Alice scrutinized Victoria carefully, only momentarily losing her composure before regaining her haughty demeanor, taking control of the situation.

"You disappeared in the middle of a meeting without a word? I was worried sick looking for you," she said to William, seemingly full of concern but actually filled with reproach, subtly hinting at her close relationship with him.

So what if the engagement was called off? For the past three years, she had been the one by his side.

William treated her naturally, not even bothering to explain Victoria's presence, simply responding, "Something came up."

She nodded slightly, not pressing further.

William escorted Victoria to her check-up. In front of Alice, Victoria didn't refuse.

When the nurse said she needed to remove her outerwear, Alice stepped forward. "You're a man, it's not appropriate. Let me help, you wait outside."
