Chapter 49

Victoria clenched her jaw but couldn't come up with a comeback; she really had no guarantees.

"That's it. I'm super busy," Robert said, ready to turn and leave.

Just then, his phone rang. He glanced at the number, frowned, and picked up.

Victoria overheard him saying things like "no way" and "see you in court."

After hanging up, Robert looked at Victoria and said, "The other side doesn't want to make a big deal out of this. Their lawyer called, asking for a settlement and compensation. What do you think?"

Victoria was quiet for a moment, then shook her head. "No way! We're taking this all the way! They need to pay and be punished!"

Robert raised an eyebrow, looking at Victoria. "You sure about that?"

Victoria nodded firmly.

Her words made Robert's attitude soften a bit. At least she wasn't just after the money.

"Alright, I'll go back to the ward and tell my mom to be ready," Robert said, standing up and heading back.

Victoria jogged to keep up with him.

Just as they reached the ward door, it swung open, and Harry was about to leave.

Seeing Victoria and Robert, he paused and looked back.

Following his gaze, Victoria saw William behind him.

His face was dark and menacing, the hostility radiating off him was chilling.

Victoria instinctively took a step back.

Robert frowned. Even though he didn't like Victoria, he couldn't stand seeing a man bully a woman.

So he stepped forward slightly, blocking William's view, and coldly asked, "Who are you?"

William didn't even glance at Robert, staring straight at Victoria like he wanted to kill her.

Victoria didn't want any more drama with him and instinctively hid behind Robert.

His presence was unexpected for Victoria.

Of course, she didn't think he was there to sincerely visit Elara, but more likely to persuade Elara on behalf of Ella.

"Sir!" Robert coldly looked at William and said, "Who are you looking for? If you have no business here, please step aside. We need to go in!"

William finally moved his gaze from Victoria, looked at Robert indifferently, and said, "Mr. Davis? Can we talk?"

"Sure," Robert replied. Then he turned to Victoria and said, "You go in and talk to my mom. I'll be there soon."

Even though he had always been hostile towards Victoria, at this moment, he seemed inexplicably trustworthy.

Victoria responded softly and then pushed the door open and went inside.

William watched her obedient demeanor, which was a stark contrast to her arrogance when confronting him last night.

Regardless, in this situation, William didn't want to argue with Victoria about yesterday's events.

William's eyes turned cold as he walked past them into the hallway. Soon, Robert followed.

Victoria entered the ward and saw Elara waving at her. Elara looked at the door and whispered, "Mr. Scott came to apologize."

Victoria wasn't surprised and responded angrily, "Is he apologizing and then asking for a settlement?"

Elara smiled, gently pinching her cheek. She replied, "A settlement isn't a big deal. I didn't want to make a big fuss."

"But..." Victoria hesitated.

Seeing this, Elara advised, "Victoria, you're still young. Don't let these troubles affect you. Besides, Mr. Scott is right; the Garcia family is not to be trifled with. If this escalates, it might be bad for you. If we settle now, Mr. Scott can handle them. He also promised that if the Garcia family harms you again, he will personally deal with it."

Victoria bit her lip, looking conflicted. "I just can't accept it! I'd rather be the one lying here!" she said.

Elara chuckled, knowing Victoria had a good heart, and whispered, "He also promised to hand over their company's legal affairs to Robert and compensate me with a million dollars! With this compensation, Robert won't have to worry about supporting a wife!"

Victoria was amused by her, then sighed and said, "Mr. Davis is so outstanding; you don't need to worry about him. You're doing this for me."

Elara patted her shoulder and said earnestly, "Silly girl, I'm looking out for you, but I'm not losing out either, right? I believe in moderation. Don't push things too far, or you'll suffer."

Victoria looked at her, feeling a pang of sadness.

Victoria lowered her head and responded, "Elara, I will help you get justice for your suffering!"

Elara paused, then smiled and said, "Alright."

Soon, Robert came in.

Victoria could guess the outcome: William had convinced Elara, and Robert was just being informed.

Even if Robert was unwilling, he couldn't go against Elara's wishes as her son.

After a few words with Elara and a glance at Victoria, he left.

Seeing Elara looking tired, Victoria helped her lie down to rest.

Victoria then took a book from her bag and started reading and taking notes by the bed. After over half an hour, she felt tired and saw that Elara was still sleeping.

Victoria thought Elara might be hungry if she woke up in the middle of the night, so she went out to buy some pastries and fruit.

As soon as she stepped out of the hospital, she saw a black Maybach parked at the entrance.

Victoria's expression changed, but she pretended not to notice.

But as the car window rolled down, her face stiffened.

William leaned back in his seat, looking serious and deep. His long legs were elegantly crossed, and he stared at her intently.

His gaze was oppressive, as if he wanted to devour Victoria.

Victoria looked away, pretending not to notice him, and walked towards the supermarket.

"If you dare to leave, I guarantee you'll regret it." William's cold, deep voice came from behind, making Victoria stop abruptly.

William's words successfully halted Victoria.

She clenched her fingers, slowly turned around, met his cold eyes, and hoarsely said, "Mr. Scott, I thought you came to apologize to Elara today."

When he heard her hoarse voice, William's heart skipped a beat, as if he had forgotten something important.

William collected his thoughts, his expression softening slightly, and said, "I've already apologized to Elara on behalf of Ella. I've also instructed Ella that this will never happen again."

Victoria sneered, "Should I thank you?"

He frowned and replied, "Do you have to be sarcastic?"

"What else? Should I bow and thank you for your magnanimity?" she smiled, her gaze firm. "Ella sent people to humiliate me, then to force me to settle, sent people to beat my father in prison, and then locked me in a basement, almost costing me my life. You promised me justice! But today? Even my landlord was beaten into the hospital by them. Is this your guarantee? Just because the Scott family and the Garcia family have money and power, you can use and bully us without consequence?" she retorted.

William pressed his lips together, his face gloomy.

He knew Victoria wasn't just talking about Elara's incident but also what happened yesterday.

He was indeed somewhat at fault.

But wasn't it all her own doing?

Thinking of this, he was about to speak.

But then, Victoria continued, "William, forget about the two-month deadline. Starting today, let's not see each other anymore."
