Chapter 141

Aaron was mentally calculating the time Isabella had been at the company. He didn't know what Michael was thinking and just nodded. "Yes, it's really urgent!"

If he didn't leave now, he would run into Isabella soon. By then, it would be impossible to leave.

Seeing Aaron sweat for the first time over a girlfriend, Michael shook his head helplessly.

While he was having no luck in love, Aaron seemed to be in a relationship.

As the boss, it was indeed his fault for keeping Aaron at the company at this hour. He couldn't deny Aaron the time to date. "Go ahead, don't keep her waiting. If you get married, remember to let me know."

Aaron had been his subordinate for a few years. If Aaron got married, Michael would definitely give him a big gift.

Michael actually let him go without asking any questions. Aaron ran towards the door.

As he closed the door, he suddenly remembered that Michael just say not to forget to notify him about something.

But he diecided to forget it and leave first. Isabella was probably already in the building by now.

Just as he was about to press the elevator button, Aaron gasped when he saw an elevator coming up from the first floor.

Realizing it must be Isabella, Aaron quickly went to another elevator, and disappeared from the executive floor before Isabella could reach the top.

Isabella stepped out of the elevator and walked straight towards the CEO's office.

But standing outside the office, she didn't see Aaron.

By this time, Aaron should have been back even if he went out for a late-night snack. Why was there no one on the entire floor?

It was late at night, and it was easy to let others overthink. If Aaron were around, it would be less awkward.

How was she supposed to face Michael alone, especially after what she had said to him during the day, the mere thought of it making her scalp tingle.

What Isabella didn't know was that Michael in the office had also heard her footsteps.

The repeated sound of high heels, occasionally stomping heavily, as sound as during the day.

Realizing it was Isabella, Michael's eyes flashed with surprise.

At this moment, he was glad he had let Aaron go earlier, so he could enjoy this time alone with Isabella.

Suppressing his excitement, he slowly stood up and opened the door that separated them.

Seeing her really standing there, Michael just raised an eyebrow and said coolly, "What are you doing here?"

Isabella was still imagining Aaron running back to help her out.

However she met Michael's cold, deep eyes at the next second.

She pressed her lips together, unable to come up with an excuse.

Instead, she blurted out, "I'm looking for Aaron. Is he here?"

After saying that, Isabella felt extremely embarrassed.

Even if she wanted to make an excuse, she shouldn't have said that. Who would show up at Michael's office at night and ask where his assistant was? It was like exposing her true thoughts.

Michael's lips curled slightly, his voice unchanged. "He left for the day. He's not here."

"Left for the day?" Isabella opened her mouth, wanting to ask why Aaron left at this time, but she couldn't bring herself to say it.

After all, at this hour, who wouldn't leave work except for someone like Michael who was solely focused on work? So, was she going to be alone with Michael tonight?

Isabella pressed her lips together, trying to hold onto the last bit of hope. "But didn't Aaron go out to get you something to eat?"

She really didn't want to face him alone, especially with no one else around.

Michael nodded slightly. "Yeah, he left after getting it."

He stepped aside, letting Isabella see the food on the table.

Isabella was completely disheartened. But she couldn't help but suspect that Aaron's timely disappearance was to create an opportunity for her and Michael to be alone at night.

But Michael didn't give her much time to think. He stood by the door, staring at her. "Do you like standing at the door talking to people?"

Isabella was stunned.

She was about to say no when she saw Michael's tall figure turn and walk into the office.

He picked up the late-night snack and went to the sofa, starting to eat his second meal of the day.

Since she left, he had been overwhelmed with various emotions and had a lot of work, leaving him with no appetite.

Now he was so hungry he could barely stand. If he didn't eat something, he might really collapse.

Seeing that Michael didn't seem to care about what happened during the day, Isabella had no choice but to come in.

She walked over and saw that Michael was only eating a bowl of plain porridge, which made her heart ache a little.

She didn't want to admit she felt sorry for Michael, but her feelings couldn't lie.

She sighed and sat across from him, "Why are you only eating this?"

Michael chewed the porridge slowly, swallowed, and looked up at her calmly. "I'm a patient. What else can a patient eat?"

"You only need to avoid hurting the wound, not starve yourself!" Isabella said helplessly.

When Daniel was unwell before, she had taken care of him, so she knew basic nursing knowledge.

But she didn't expect that as the CEO of a group, Michael would be reduced to drinking porridge when sick.

Isabella, who wanted to say more, thought she might be overstepping.

She swallowed her words of concern, cleared her throat, and stated her purpose for coming. "Um... did my uncles hurt you during the day?"

Michael was already injured, and her uncles were all strong, especially Atticus, who was a former special forces soldier.

If they really went all out, Michael would definitely be at a disadvantage.

Michael didn't want to talk about what happened during the day, so he simply replied, "I'm not hurt."

Michael thought she came because she couldn't let go of him, but he was wrong.

Without more appetite, he put down the spoon and got up to leave. Maybe he moved too forcefully, pulling at the wound on his waist.

The pain came unexpectedly, and Michael barely held back a cry.

But the cold sweat on his forehead and his overly pale face didn't escape Isabella's notice.

She was startled and quickly walked over to support him. "Michael, are you okay?"

Although he cherished the feeling of her being close, Michael still pushed her away. "I'm fine. If you came just to ask about your uncles, you can leave now!"
