Chapter 144

The man dressed in a handsome gray suit, smiled as he held Isabella's arm.

And right next to him, Isabella had already changed out of the light blue suit he had personally chosen for her and was now wearing a black strapless cocktail dress.

Her hair, like seaweed, cascaded down her back, and her delicate face now beamed with a sweet smile for Emilio.

'Isabella, you're ruthless.' Michael cursed in his head.

How long had it been since Isabella left his side, and now she was here arm in arm with Emilio.

Michael clenched his fist. If he had known she was in a hurry to leave this morning to meet Emilio, he wouldn't have let her go so easily.

He should have tortured her in bed every night so she couldn't get up.

As Isabella sat down face to face with Emilio, she inexplicably felt a chill behind her.

She just thought she was underdressed and didn't pay much attention to it.

She smiled and said to Emilio, "I owed you a meal, and it took until today to find the time. I hope you're not mad."

These past few days, she had been so busy with Harper and Michael that she had forgotten about the dinner she owed Emilio.

If it weren't for the reminder on her phone, she would have completely forgotten.

Since Emilio joined the Wilson Group, he had earned recognition for his abilities, both at work and among the shareholders.

With Emilio around, she could relax a lot more, so Isabella felt grateful to him.

But while she appreciated his help, she wouldn't keep someone as talented as Emilio confined to the Wilson Group as a vice president. Someone as outstanding as him deserved a broader stage.

"How could I?" Emilio smiled at her. "No matter how bold I am, I can't be mad at my boss, Ms. Taylor, don't you think?"

Isabella knew he was joking and played along. "Then Mr. Blair, don't be polite with me. Order whatever you want. I brought a black card."

"Alright." Emilio nodded indulgently and picked up the menu.

Having been abroad for a long time, he wasn't very familiar with the tastes in Evergreen City. After looking at a few items, he called the waiter to ask for recommendations.

The waiter, seeing this, instinctively thought they were a couple.

After briefly introducing a few classic dishes, the waiter pointed to the top of the menu at the special signature set. "Sir, this is our hotel's best couple's set, which includes appetizers, soup, and complimentary ice cream and fruit."

Emilio nodded after hearing this, his eyes drawn to the picture of the candles.

"Are these included too?" He was just curious and asked casually.

But the waiter misunderstood and smiled. "Don't worry, sir. Couple's sets are all about the atmosphere, and this kind of ceremony won't be lacking."

Both of them were stunned by this.

Isabella was surprised by Emilio's choice of the set, while Emilio hadn't expected that a casual question would deepen the waiter's misunderstanding.

"No, you misunderstood. We..." Emilio wanted to explained.

"We'll take this set." Isabella decided before he could finish, and the waiter walked away with a smile.

Just as Emilio's heart skipped a beat, thinking Isabella might be trying to accept him, she blinked her bright eyes.

She leaned in and said, "You find the set with candles interesting too, don't you? So do I. But these things are just gimmicks to attract people. You don't need to think there's anything wrong with it."

Seeing the sparkle in her eyes, Emilio pursed his lips and nodded, saying, "Alright."

The hotel's service was quick, and in the quiet candlelight, they enjoyed the satisfaction brought by the food, chatting as they ate.

"Emilio, I heard from Jesse that Uncle Atticus came to the office today and stayed in your office for a long time. Did something happen?" Isabella asked.

As the company's vice president, it was reasonable for Emilio to be interviewed by Atticus.

But Jesse said they talked for at least an hour, which made her couldn't help but be curious about what they discussed.

After all, when she was at the company, Atticus never talked to her about the company's future development. Why was he so engaged with Emilio?

Faced with Isabella's curiosity, Emilio's hand paused, and his ears turned slightly blush, but he quickly covered it up.

He took a sip of red wine, avoiding her gaze. "Nothing much. Mr. Wilson mainly talked to me about you."

"Me?" Isabella was stunned, even more curious now. "Uncle Atticus talked to you about me for an hour. What are you hiding from me? Is it about changes in the company's five-year development plan, and that's why he didn't tell me and talked to you first?"

But Emilio just shook his head and smiled. "No, don't overthink it. You're the CEO of this group. I wouldn't handle anything over your head. Since you're so curious, I'll tell you. I wasn't planning to hide it from you anyway."

Hearing that, Isabella's heart tightened.

If it made Emilio this nervous, it must be something significant.

But what she didn't expect was how quickly Atticus and the others acted.

Emilio said, "Mr. Wilson told me that after discussing with the your other uncles, they thought I was the most suitable match for you, so they wanted to ask my opinion."

Isabella opened her mouth but could only ask, "What did you tell Uncle Atticus?"

Emilio didn't know what she was thinking, but he didn't want to miss another chance.

"I'm fine with it. It's up to you." He left the choice to her.

Even now, he didn't want to put any psychological pressure on her.

He was in love with her, but her heart had long been with Michael. It wasn't easy to pull away so quickly, so he didn't want to make things difficult for her.

Isabella fell silent.

She had sensed Emilio's feelings during the game in the bar last time, but she regretted it afterward.

He was such a good person; how could she use him to forget Michael?

That day in Michael's office, she thought her uncles were just trying to provoke Michael with a casual remark.

She didn't expect them to act so quickly and even approach Emilio.

Didn't they think that if she and Emilio had known each other for so many years, if they could have become lovers, it would have happened already?

She sighed, thinking it was a good opportunity to apologize today. "Emilio, I'm sorry. Not just for this matchmaking thing with my uncles, but also for what happened at the bar last time. I was too selfish, trying to drag you into my mess with Michael. Afterward, I realized we are better off as friends. Just consider what I said that day as nonsense."
