Chapter 223
Violet originally wanted to hear Michael say that he cared about her.
But Michael said, "Why should I explain? No one cares."
Isabella would never believe he was innocent.
Just as Violet was puzzled, Michael continued, "What I mean is, since they have already seen it, right or wrong doesn't matter anymore, and there's no need to explain."
To Violet, these words meant that Michael had already accepted her. He even took a beating from Aiden for her. Didn't that prove her place in his heart?
However, Michael just didn't want this matter to be worse. He hadn't fully figured out Violet's identity yet, and some things couldn't be too obvious. It wouldn't be good if she sensed his true intentions.
With the injuries and the impact of the cold medicine, Michael soon couldn't hold on and felt sleepy.
He didn't even know when Violet left.
When he woke up the next day, his head didn't hurt as much, and even the injuries on his back had improved a bit. At least he could slowly sit up.
Just as he wanted to get out of bed and move around, Sophia, who usually only took care of things around Aiden, came to remind him.
"Mr. Michael Brown, Mr. Aiden Brown specifically asked me to inform you that Mrs. Isabella Brown is back. She came here to see you. Please get ready; Mrs. Isabella Brown will be up soon."
Hearing this, Michael's heart tightened.
Isabella came?
But last night, she was so angry that she didn't even want to look at him. How could she come to see him early in the morning?
Michael thought he was still groggy and hallucinating.
"Impossible, what nonsense are you talking about? Why would she come to see me?"
Michael didn't believe it at all.
It was possible that Isabella came to see Aiden, but to see him? Not likely.
Seeing Michael's dumbfounded look, Sophia couldn't help but sigh. If Michael had reflected earlier, things wouldn't have reached this point with Isabella.
In the end, it was because he didn't know how to cherish.
Sophia had been by Aiden's side for many years, and even Stella didn't dare to mess with her. Seeing Michael like this, she couldn't help but advise him.
"Mr. Brown, you heard right. Mrs. Isabella Brown came to see you. And I say you and Mrs. Isabella Brown are the most compatible couple. It's best to clear up any misunderstandings before it's too late to regret."
Worried that Michael might have difficulty moving, Sophia quickly reacted.
"Don't move. I'll get a basin of water to wipe your face. We can't let Mrs. Isabella Brown see you like this when she comes."
Sophia was one of the few in the Brown Family who felt for Isabella. She still hoped Isabella and Michael could reconcile.
But she was just a servant, with little influence. Advising a few words was already too much; she couldn't say more.
Michael was still shocked by Isabella's appearance.
Meanwhile, Isabella, sitting in the downstairs hall, was also very uneasy.
After the awkward scene last night, she was persuaded by Daniel to come here early in the morning to see the "seriously injured" Michael.
But she really didn't want to come.
How Michael got injured and how serious it was had nothing to do with her. His injuries were even for Violet.
She only knew that apart from divorce, they were already strangers.
If she wasn't worried about Daniel finding out, she would have wanted to expedite the divorce.
Last night, after much thought, she followed Atticus back to the Wilson Family.
To avoid Daniel's suspicion, Holden told Daniel a different version of Michael's injury.
Daniel, still worried, asked her to come early in the morning to see Michael personally.
It was also to help improve the relationship between the couple.
Injured people were the most vulnerable. Even if Isabella just stayed by Michael's side, it would be better than a thousand words.
But Isabella didn't know Daniel's thoughts. She couldn't explain the scene she saw last night and reluctantly came again.
As soon as she arrived, she regretted it.
Because she really didn't know how to face Michael upstairs.
Aiden, having experienced so much, could see Isabella's inner conflict.
But Isabella coming here already meant she still cared about Michael.
"Isabella, I know you're upset. Don't worry, I already gave Michael a good scolding last night. You don't have to care about him. Just take care of yourself and the baby. Leave everything else to me. I will stand up for you."
"Thank you, Grandpa. I understand."
Isabella knew Aiden was still good to her, saying these things for her and Michael's future, hoping they wouldn't divorce.
But her decision to separate from Michael was firm.
She couldn't change her mind because of Aiden's words.
"Good, as long as you understand."
Aiden assumed Isabella still had feelings for Michael. As long as it wasn't a matter of principle, their relationship could still be salvaged.
"I almost forgot. You came to see Michael, and I kept you talking. He's in the room. Go ahead; I won't take up your time."
Isabella knew she couldn't avoid seeing Michael today. She nodded and headed to the second floor.
As soon as she stepped on the stairs, she noticed the changes.
The originally wooden stairs were now covered with thick carpet, and even the handrails were wrapped in soft, non-slip material.
This was the way to the master bedroom, and she was pregnant. It was obvious who it was prepared for.
Thinking back to last night when Aiden tried to keep her, Isabella felt a pang of sadness.
Putting Michael aside, Aiden had always been very good to her.
Her mother, Grace, died when she was six, and she was tormented by Harper and her daughter.
Her father, Indigo, didn't care about her at all.
That period was a nightmare for her.
Now she was about to have a child, and even before the child was born, Aiden treated her like a treasure. She was touched.
Step by step, she reached the room they once shared as a married couple. Isabella took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
There was a pause inside, followed by a familiar low voice, "Come on in."
When Isabella entered, Sophia was about to wipe Michael's face with a wet towel. She turned and saw Isabella, her face lighting up. "Mrs. Brown is here."
"Sophia." Isabella greeted politely. When she was troubled by Stella in the Brown Family, Sophia had secretly helped her a lot.
Sophia smiled and nodded, then glanced at Michael lying on the bed, her eyes flickering.
"Since Mrs. Brown is here, I won't be in the way. Mr. Brown can't move, so I'll trouble you to help him, Mrs. Brown." With that, Sophia quickly left.
