Chapter 244
"Really?" Aaron raised an eyebrow and gestured inside the room with his eyes. "What about here? No surveillance or recording devices, right?"
"No, the security in all the lounges is extremely strict. There are no electronic devices, and the room is equipped with soundproofing facilities," Renee explained seriously.
She meant to convey that even if they discussed privacy or business secrets here, no one else would hear.
But this point gave Aaron an opportunity.
"Oh?" He touched his chin, his squinted eyes falling on Renee. "So, if I wanted to do something here, it would be quite secretive, wouldn't it?"
Hearing this, Renee's brows furrowed, and her guarded gaze fell on Aaron.
She quickly calmed down and said, "Of course, whether you're here to discuss matters or negotiate cooperation, it's safe. We also have various security measures in place, and you can contact the security outside with just one button."
"After all, we are in the beauty business, and most of our clients are women. If there's an emergency, the client's safety is our top priority."
Her words gave Aaron the proper respect while also warning him not to have any improper thoughts.
Otherwise, she could call for help at any time.
Renee was smarter than Aaron had imagined.
But Aaron wasn't here just to go through the motions. He needed useful information to report back to Michael.
"Hearing you say that makes me feel even more at ease. After all, I'm a client too, aren't I?"
Aaron's tone was unusually calm, and his expression didn't change at all. Just as Renee breathed a sigh of relief, a large hand suddenly reached out in front of her.
In an instant, she was pinned to the sofa, her hands twisted behind her back, and she lost the ability to resist.
Aaron's strength far exceeded hers. The emergency button was right in front of her, but she couldn't move.
Even if she screamed for help, no one would hear.
The soundproofing that benefited the clients also blocked her cries for help.
"Tell me what you want, just don't hurt me!"
Renee wasn't a woman who hadn't seen the world. She knew Aaron had a purpose, whether it was money or something else.
As long as she handled it calmly, she could avoid being hurt or worse.
"Let me go. We can talk about money or anything else. I can give you enough money and won't call the police."
Renee was good at reading people. If Aaron were a real criminal, he might have let go of her for the money.
But Aaron wasn't here for money; he was investigating the secrets behind this beauty salon.
No matter how much money Renee offered, he wouldn't be swayed.
But teasing her at this moment was quite amusing.
"Enough money? How much can you give?" Aaron asked deliberately.
"Three hundred thousand dollars?" Renee bit her lip and tentatively offered a number.
Aaron, about her age, was dressed in designer clothes. Maybe he was just having a whim to do so.
She added another hundred thousand dollars, "Four hundred thousand dollars, no more."
Aaron couldn't help but laugh coldly. "Oh, come on, Ms. Faith. Do you think I've come this far to be bought off by a mere few hundred thousand dollars? Or do you think your life is only worth that much?"
Renee's heart sank, realizing she was dealing with someone formidable.
She stopped trying to solve the problem with money.
"If it's not money, what do you want? As long as you let me go, we can talk."
Renee's eyes were fixed on the button not far away. If Aaron let his guard down, she could press it immediately.
Then everyone in the beauty salon would hear the alarm.
She would be saved.
But Aaron seemed to have seen through her plan.
Before she could move, her hands were quickly tied to the sofa armrest with a warm tie.
With her hands bound, Renee lost her last chance to call for help.
Seeing Aaron's open collar, filthy images flashed through her mind, and her face turned pale.
Just as she was about to scream, a slender finger pressed against her pale lips.
"Ms. Faith, you'd better not to waste your energy. You know better than I do how good the soundproofing in this room is."
Facing Aaron's calm and steady eyes, Renee was momentarily stunned.
But a greater fear surged in her heart.
"Who the hell are you?"
He wasn't after money or her, yet he tied her up as soon as he came in.
What was he trying to find out?
Aaron's eyes flashed with a hint of admiration. "Ms. Faith, you're so smart. Why not guess who I am?"
Renee suppressed her nervousness, thinking about all the information she had gathered from him.
A suit worth a fortune, an extraordinary demeanor without a strong sense of aggression.
And he admitted his last name was Hill.
Renee's eyes lit up.
Facing Aaron's meaningful expression, she instinctively swallowed.
"It's said that the president of the Brown Group, Mr. Brown, has an assistant who has been with him for many years. He's meticulous, thorough, and impeccable in his conduct. And his last name is also Hill. Could it be you?"
Aaron merely smiled at Renee's deliberate flattery.
Having been by Michael's side for many years, he wasn't easily swayed by a compliment.
"Ms. Faith, you're quite sharp. I was just asking casually, and you guessed it right."
Aaron admitted his identity and continued.
"You don't need to be overly afraid. I'm not here for money or anything else. I just want to confirm some things with you. Answer my questions truthfully, and I'll let you go."
Hearing Aaron admit his identity and state his purpose, Renee breathed a sigh of relief.
Her face showed less tension but more caution. "Mr. Hill, if I don't answer truthfully, are you planning to kill me?"
"I've only been in Evergreen City for three months. If I die at the hands of the Brown Group, won't the news be all over the headlines the next day? The Brown Group, ruthless and threatening, will be in big trouble. What will happen to the Brown Group then?"
Aaron nodded cooperatively. "Since you're so curious about the impact of your death on the Brown Group, why not give it a try?"
With that, he took out a transparent bag from his pocket, containing two white pills.
