Chapter 255
Not in terms of feelings, Isabella racked her brain and asked in confusion, "Could it be that you're getting another promotion? But Nolan, you're already at the professor level. What's next, deputy director?"
Nolan smiled and shook his head, "Forget it, it's something I don't even dare to think about myself, it's also difficult for you."
"So, what exactly is the good news, Nolan?"
Seeing Isabella's curious look, Nolan pursed his lips and patted his currently numb legs.
"Oh my God!"
Isabella covered her mouth in surprise, her eyes brightened, "Nolan, are you saying there's hope for your legs?"
Since Nolan returned from abroad, she hadn't dared to mention this matter in front of him.
Firstly, she was afraid of bringing up his sad memories, and secondly, she didn't want Nolan to think she minded it.
As long as he was okay, she could hold back from asking anything.
She didn't expect that there was a possibility of his legs being cured.
This was the best news she had heard recently.
"It's not that exaggerated, I just found a treatment plan."
Seeing Isabella's happy expression, Nolan knew he was right to share it with her first.
"Yesterday I went to the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor said that my legs recently had some sensation that could be detected by machines, but it's just very slight reflexes, and my brain can't sense it yet."
Isabella listened attentively and nodded, "The doctor means that if you persist with the treatment, there's a possibility of your legs recovering, right?"
She really was his little sunshine.
The doctor did say that.
Nolan looked at Isabella's shining eyes and nodded with a smile.
"That's great, Nolan, I believe in you, you will definitely be able to stand up again like before."
Isabella's face was full of trust and joy, and she suddenly thought of something, "Such great news, Nolan, have you told Grandpa Aiden? He would be so happy to know."
Aiden had been in frequent contact with her recently, concerned about her well-being and health, and sometimes talked about Nolan.
She could tell that Aiden was worried about Nolan moving to live at the school.
Especially now that the weather was cold, he was always worried about Nolan's legs getting cold or getting hurt.
Speaking of which, Isabella picked up her phone to call Aiden.
The next second, Nolan stopped her, "Isabella, don't call. The doctor only said there's a possibility, let's not get Grandpa's hopes up for nothing."
"How could it be for nothing? The doctor said there's a possibility, so it can definitely be cured."
Isabella didn't understand, but seeing Nolan's suddenly changed expression, she thought more, "Nolan, do you not want to tell Grandpa this good news?"
Nolan didn't say it directly, but the light in his eyes dimmed a bit, "What difference does it make if I tell him, he cares?"
Isabella opened her mouth, wanting to explain for Aiden, but was afraid of hurting Nolan's feelings.
She could only try to mediate their relationship, "Nolan, Grandpa does care about you, maybe he just doesn't know how to express it, which makes you misunderstand."
Nolan smiled bitterly, "Isabella, you've been in the Brown Family for a few years, do you think anyone in that family truly cares about me?"
Isabella was speechless.
Although she had only been married into the Brown Family for three years, she could see how low Nolan's status was in the family.
He wasn't even present at the annual gatherings, and no one cared.
In the whole family, only Aiden would mention Nolan, who was far away abroad, in front of her, while others completely ignored his name.
Seeing Isabella's silence, Nolan sighed deeply.
He took the phone from her hand and gently placed it on the table, "Isabella, I know you're doing this for my good, but I know my place in this family, so there's no need. Even if you make this call, it will only make things difficult for both sides."
Isabella didn't explain further.
She didn't know what kind of hardships Nolan had endured in the Brown Family, or how his relationship with Aiden had become like this.
She remembered that he returned to the country because of Aiden's illness, fearing he might never see Aiden again, which prompted the decision.
But now...
If he didn't want to talk about it, she couldn't force him.
"Nolan, I respect your choice. If you don't want to tell anyone, then this will be our secret. I will keep it for you."
Nolan slowly raised his head, the darkness in his eyes illuminated by Isabella's warmth, he smiled and nodded.
"Isabella, it's so good to have you."
As if guided by some unseen force, he reached out and held Isabella's hand, moving closer to her.
For so many years, she had been like the sun in the sky, lighting up his entire life and warming his painful past.
Isabella understood Nolan's feelings and didn't mind his actions.
But when their eyes met, she seemed to see the real Nolan hiding in the shadows, wanting to see him more clearly.
She wanted to know his true thoughts, but the more she tried to chase his shadow, the more she was drawn to him.
When she realized that the attraction she felt was actually Nolan's intense gaze, Isabella suddenly came to her senses.
No!
"Ms. Taylor, there's no tea at home to serve Mr. Brown, is lemon water okay?"
Cinda's voice pulled Isabella out of her thoughts.
She pretended to be calm and withdrew her hand, sitting back in her seat.
It was then that she realized how close they had been, almost kissing.
This was not the distance between friends.
She went too far.
"Nolan, do you want some lemon water?"
"Sure, anything is fine."
Realizing what had happened, Isabella called out to Cinda in the living room.
Then the two of them sat apart, but Isabella still felt something was off.
But Nolan didn't seem awkward at all, and even asked her considerately, "Isabella, are you feeling unwell?"
"No, I'm not unwell, maybe just a bit hot, I'll go to the bathroom."
Just as Cinda brought the lemon water, Isabella took the opportunity to leave.
Standing in the bathroom, she washed her face with cold water and took a deep breath in front of the mirror.
She never expected that the light in Nolan's eyes was directed at her.
She knew what that look meant, but how could it be?
He was Nolan, her long-time friend.
They were so close, like family, it was impossible for such feelings and sparks to arise.
She must be overthinking!
Nolan just saw her as a family member, a source of emotional support, which is why he felt grateful and happy when she said those words.
And now, being pregnant, her emotions were sensitive and changeable, leading to such misunderstandings.
Isabella slowly calmed herself down, thinking she really needed to control her pregnancy emotions better.
Even mistaking Nolan's intentions was simply absurd!
