Chapter 318

On his way back to the company, Michael received a call from Aaron, who was far away in another country.

"Mr. Brown, we've identified the reason why the project in Auroria isn't progressing."

"The Adri Family wants to monopolize everything and won't let others get good resources. They bribed a local official to raise prices, but we had an agreement with them, so they naturally didn't want to pay more. This caused a conflict and delayed the project."

Michael listened, his eyes slightly downcast, showing no surprise in his expression.

These things were within his expectations.

"Bribery between businessmen and officials is not a big deal over there. Find another breakthrough."

Aaron agreed, "Indeed! The local officials are terrified of the Adri Family. Even if we provide evidence, they turn a blind eye, not to mention that the official has marital ties with the Adri Family."

"However, I've found other clues about the Adri Family's illegal occupation of local mines. Their reach is too extensive. As long as we find evidence, we can smoothly proceed with our project."

He didn't believe that everyone here feared the Adri Family. Their people were rampant and lawless.

There would always be someone oppressed enough to want to fight back.

The enemy of my enemy was my friend; there would always be a way.

Hearing Aaron's determination, Michael pursed his lips, thinking about how to tell him about Renee's injury.

After all, Aaron's call yesterday clearly showed his strong feelings for Renee.

Aaron had been with him for many years, and it was the first time he expressed feelings for a woman, despite Renee's different stance.

Aaron hadn't wavered in his thoughts.

Michael couldn't bear to keep it from him any longer.

"Aaron, I have something to tell you. Renee was injured and is in the hospital."

Despite the complex situation in Auroria, Michael wanted Aaron to know, even if it might distract him.

"How did she get injured? How is Renee now? Is she okay?"

Aaron's voice trembled with anxiety, his earlier calmness during the work report collapsing instantly.

He should have guessed, shouldn't he?

Renee took a risk to reveal the news about Isabella's impending danger. How could those behind her let her go?

He now just wanted to fly back and stay by her side, not letting her suffer any more harm. But looking at the foreign situation in front of him, he hesitated.

The situation in Auroria was not optimistic. Leaving would give the opponent an opportunity.

The Adri Family wanted to swallow all of the Wilson Group's resources. He couldn't leave!

"Mr. Brown, please, can you get someone to take care of her temporarily before I return? She has no friends or family in Evergreen City."

Although this request was abrupt, Aaron could only think of asking Michael.

Firstly, Renee's special identity meant that only the Brown Family's influence could protect her. Ordinary people couldn't withstand the Adri Family's attacks.

Secondly, Renee wasn't a local in Evergreen City. She was alone.

If he wasn't there, there was really no one else to help her.

"No problem."

Michael didn't refuse. Aaron was in Auroria, facing dangerous work for him. As his boss, he couldn't leave Aaron's girlfriend Renee in the lurch.

In the end, he still said, "Once you find a breakthrough in Auroria, come back immediately."

After all, Aaron had been with him for many years. Michael considered him one of his own, not just a work machine.

On the other end of the phone, Aaron was stunned, then almost cried with excitement, "Thank you, Mr. Brown. I'll speed up the progress."

He knew how important this mission was. Otherwise, Michael wouldn't have sent him to oversee it personally.

But for Michael to ask him to return at this time, how could Aaron not be excited?

"Renee's injuries are unusual, like she was being hunted. I suspect the Adri Family has noticed something."

"Have you noticed her doing anything unusual recently?"

This reminded Aaron.

He immediately thought of the blue handkerchief he saw from Isabella.

"Yes! Mr. Brown, do you remember I told you about Mrs. Brown being in danger before I left the country? Maybe Renee's being hunted is related to that."

"People like them wouldn't tolerate internal betrayal. Once discovered, they would definitely silence her."

"Renee is in danger now, Mr. Brown. Can you move her to a safe place?"

Michael hesitated, "It's not that I don't want to. Renee has already been taken by Isabella's people. There are guards at the hospital. I might not even be able to get in."

He wasn't lying.

When Aaron asked him to find someone to take care of Renee, he thought about calling Isabella to explain Aaron and Renee's relationship.

Maybe add one of his own people, so Aaron could focus on his work abroad.

Hearing that Isabella personally protected Renee, Aaron breathed a sigh of relief, "With Mrs. Brown's protection, I'm not worried."

"Mr. Brown, I'll try to resolve things here and return as soon as possible."

Because Renee was waiting for him to return.

"Okay, stay safe."

Michael instructed, then hung up the phone.

He had been worried about how to get closer to Isabella after the prenatal checkup. Now, with Aaron as an excuse, he should be able to see her again.

A week later, Evergreen City entered winter, and it snowed heavily.

That afternoon, Bianca, dressed in black, appeared in a suburban cemetery.

She walked step by step to the end of the path, took off her sunglasses, and placed a bouquet of lilies bought from the roadside in front of a joint tombstone.

The tombstone had photos of a man and a woman, Indigo and Harper, who had been executed.

Bianca personally selected the photos from their family album. They were young, smiling happily with her in the middle.

But now the photos were black and white, making her feel sad.

"Dad, Mom, I've come to see you. You won't blame me, right?"

Bianca said, pressing her face against the tombstone, just like when she used to cuddle with them as a child.

But now she was an orphan who had lost her parents.

No one in this world loved her anymore. She was all alone.

When she received the call, she wanted to see her parents one last time more than anyone.

But when she put on the most expensive and beautiful clothes and opened the door, she lost the courage to step out.

She didn't dare to see them.

She couldn't imagine that after just talking to them, they would be executed the next moment.

She couldn't accept it.

Going there would be like watching them die.
