Chapter 323
The weather had been getting colder lately, and Renee didn't want to bother anyone to push her outside anymore. She was perfectly happy staying indoors.
"Renee, we agreed to call each other by our first names. Just call me Isabella, no need for Ms. Taylor!"
Isabella didn't like how Renee always treated her so formally, like she was some kind of hero every time they met.
They were about the same age, and while the formal address was fine at first, it started to feel awkward over time.
"Alright, Isabella, I just forgot for a moment," Renee said with a smile.
"What are you two whispering about? Keeping secrets from me now?" Daniel hadn't seen Isabella and figured she must have come over to see Renee again.
But Isabella was right; Renee was sensible.
Despite being around the same age as Isabella, Renee had a mature demeanor that complemented Isabella's personality. No wonder they always had so much to talk about.
"Grandpa, Renee and I were thinking about watching a show to pass the time. What about you? Why aren't you watching your TV shows in the living room?" Isabella asked.
Lately, Daniel couldn't understand what Isabella and Renee were talking about, so he spent his days in the living room trying to catch up on the latest entertainment trends for young people.
Hearing this, Renee couldn't help but laugh. Daniel always watched TV with the volume turned up high, and sometimes she could hear the plot from her room. But Daniel would always seriously ask what the main characters were talking about. It was quite amusing.
"Oh, forget it. I can't understand you young folks. They drag out a romance for a hundred episodes before resolving a misunderstanding. It's too much trouble," Daniel waved his hand, getting more frustrated the more he watched, his blood pressure rising.
"Grandpa, you can't just give up like that. How about I teach you how to follow celebrities?" Isabella suggested.
Older people needed to engage with new things to avoid sitting around and overthinking.
Daniel pointed a finger at her, "Do you think I'm a teenager? Those kids are younger than you. Why would I be interested in them?"
Daniel, the renowned Gambling King, doing something so childish? It would be laughable!
"No way, Grandpa. Lots of older people follow celebrities now. I can teach you. You can read news online, watch variety shows, and at least recognize their faces," Isabella said, picking up her tablet to show Daniel how to use Facebook and keep up with the latest news and trends, including fashion.
Daniel, with his poor eyesight, put on glasses and followed Isabella's instructions. Just as he was getting the hang of it, a servant came to remind him to take his medicine.
Isabella handed him the tablet and helped him out, "Grandpa, take your time with this. If you have questions, ask me or Renee."
"Alright," Daniel said, a bit confused as he left.
Isabella watched him take his medicine without looking away from the tablet and couldn't help but laugh. Turning around, she saw Renee's helpless expression.
"Mr. Wilson is completely wrapped around your finger. Making an eighty-year-old man follow celebrities and watch variety shows? What are you thinking?" Renee asked.
Isabella shrugged, not seeing the problem. Daniel had worked hard all his life for his six children and the entire family. Now that he was older, he didn't need that pressure anymore. He should enjoy himself.
But she had a bit of a selfish motive. Sitting next to Renee, she said, "You don't know how strict Grandpa has been with me lately. He won't let me move much, eat certain things, or even have some cold fruit. I just want to distract him a bit so he doesn't focus on me so much. Otherwise, I won't be able to eat anything."
Renee shook her head, "Mr. Wilson is worried about you. You're pregnant, after all. You need to take care of yourself."
Isabella knew that, but she was trying to find a way for both of them to relax. Pregnancy wasn't a short-term thing, and with five more months to go, she needed a break from Daniel's constant watch.
"I know he's worried, so I want him to experience new things and see there's more to the world," Isabella said just as someone knocked on the door.
"Ms. Taylor, the security outside says there's a man here to see Ms. Faith. He seems very anxious."
A man? Isabella frowned. Only the Wilson family knew about Renee's situation and her stay with them. Who could be looking for her now?
"Did he say who he is?" Isabella asked.
"He said his name is Hill, and Ms. Faith would want to see him."
Aaron? He's back!
Isabella instinctively looked at Renee, who showed a moment of surprise before regaining her composure.
"Renee, do you want to see him?" Isabella asked. It was a matter of their relationship, and she didn't want to interfere.
Renee glanced out at the yard, lost in thought for a moment before shaking her head. "No, let him go. There's no point in seeing him. We have no future together."
Renee hadn't forgotten her identity or the day she was chased. Someone like her didn't deserve to have feelings.
Isabella knew Renee had her reasons and didn't push further. She got up and left with the servant.
The room fell silent. Renee looked at the darkening sky, thinking Aaron would surely leave after her refusal.
But after a nap, she woke to find Isabella and the servant standing by her bed.
"Isabella, what are you doing?" Renee asked, still groggy and surprised.
Isabella got straight to the point, "Aaron is still waiting outside."
The servant looked troubled, "While you were asleep, Ms. Taylor and I told Mr. Hill your decision, but he refused to leave. He said he must see you today or he'll stay at the door."
"Why does he think I'll see him? If he wants to stand there, let him. I'm not seeing him," Renee said stubbornly, angered by Aaron's persistence.
