Chapter 393
Just as Olivia was about to book a flight on her phone, a stern voice suddenly rang out from outside the door.
"No way! Isabella, have you forgotten you just got better?"
Renee stood at the door, looking exasperated. She was clearly upset that Isabella wasn't taking care of her health.
Last time, she had helped Isabella sneak out without her uncles finding out, but Cinda had caught them.
Because of that, Renee had gotten quite the lecture from Cinda.
After finally getting a couple of days of peace, if Isabella tried to run off again, Cinda would definitely drag her by the ear for questioning.
"And besides, you promised me that you would stay home and take care of yourself. It's only been a few days, and you're already going back on your word?"
Renee's words left Isabella speechless.
She had indeed said that.
At the time, she just wanted to put Renee at ease, not expecting it to come back to bite her.
"Renee, Isabella has been out of the hospital for almost two weeks now. She should be fine, right?" Olivia chimed in, feeling a bit guilty since Renee was only concerned about Isabella's health.
Olivia had always been single and had never even had a boyfriend, so she was clueless about how to take care of someone after a miscarriage.
But she genuinely wanted to take Isabella out for some fresh air. Keeping her cooped up at home in her current state was definitely not good.
Renee, already fuming, nearly lost her temper at Olivia's casual remark about taking Isabella out.
"Should be fine?"
"Do you even realize how weak she is right now? A miscarriage is incredibly harmful to a woman. If she ends up with any lasting health issues, it could affect her for the rest of her life."
Hearing Renee make the situation sound so serious, Olivia's temper flared up too.
"So, according to you, Isabella can't go anywhere and should just stay locked up in her room all day?"
"Renee, she's a living, breathing person, not an emotionless machine. Do you really think keeping her cooped up until she gets sick is what's best for her?"
Olivia was breathing heavily in anger.
She might not understand childbirth, but she wasn't stupid. Isabella looked fine, not that fragile.
Seeing them about to explode into a full-blown argument, Isabella knew she couldn't say anything.
She quietly slipped downstairs.
It wasn't that she wanted to hide. It was just that no matter who she sided with, it would be wrong.
Trying to mediate would only deepen their misunderstandings.
Ever since she lost her baby, both Olivia and Renee had taken some of the blame upon themselves, and no matter what she said, they couldn't let it go.
She figured it was best to let them vent their frustrations today, so there would be no more barriers between them.
And since they were arguing for her sake, once they got it out of their system, everything would be fine.
Isabella knew them well. Even if they had a fight, two kind-hearted people like them wouldn't hold a grudge.
It was just a little spat.
Isabella came to the living room.
Cinda saw Isabella come down and had her sit and wait for a moment. She then brought out a small pot of chicken soup from the kitchen.
She served a bowl to Isabella and placed it in front of her. "Careful, it's hot."
Isabella had been sitting in her room all afternoon and was feeling a bit hungry. The delicious aroma made her mouth water, and she couldn't help but blink at Cinda.
"Cinda, it smells amazing."
"Then have more. Mr. Atticus Wilson specifically had someone get fresh ingredients from the mountains. It's good for your health."
Upstairs, Olivia and Renee were still arguing, but in front of Cinda, Isabella always felt a sense of warmth.
She nodded. "Alright."
She patted the seat next to her. "Cinda, sit with me. There's no way I can finish all this by myself. Have some with me."
Cinda declined, smiling and waving her hand. "I'm good. I have other things to do."
Isabella pretended to be upset. "Cinda, if you don't have some, then I won't either."
She never treated Cinda like a housekeeper but more like a gentle elder.
She didn't want Cinda to always downplay her own status.
"Alright, I'll have just a bit."
Cinda, with no other choice, served herself a small bowl and sat next to Isabella.
The atmosphere between them was quiet and warm. Meanwhile, Olivia and Renee's voices upstairs gradually died down as they bickered their way downstairs.
"Smells so good, Isabella. What delicious food has your housekeeper made this time?"
Olivia caught the scent at the top of the stairs, otherwise, she would have continued arguing with Renee.
Seeing that they both seemed calmer, Isabella smiled and invited them over. "Cinda made chicken soup. Come have some."
"Wow, it looks so appetizing. I'm having two bowls."
Olivia's eyes lit up as she quickly sat down at the table.
"It's just chicken soup. Do you have to be so dramatic?"
Renee, who followed behind, couldn't help but tease.
Isabella was momentarily stunned.
In her impression, Renee had always been a reserved person. Seeing her act so awkward yet genuine was quite different.
"Say that again, I dare you!"
Seeing them about to argue again, Isabella quickly intervened. "Alright, no more fight. Do you still want to the chicken soup or not?"
"Yes!"
"Yes."
They were surprisingly in sync at this moment.
Isabella couldn't help but shake her head, and even Cinda smiled as she served them each a bowl of soup.
Olivia, sitting next to Isabella, was the first to reach for her bowl, but Isabella noticed her hesitate for a moment.
As soon as Renee sat down, she let out a sharp scream.
"Ah, there's a bug!"
"What's going on?"
Isabella quickly looked over and saw a black speck floating in Renee's soup. At first glance, it looked like a small bug, but it was winter, so that was unlikely.
Besides, the Wilson family's cleanliness was maintained by professional staff. If it really was a bug, the entire staff would be held accountable.
Isabella took a closer look and realized the speck wasn't moving. She scooped it out with a spoon and found it was a piece of black thread.
And the only one wearing black today was Olivia.
Isabella was speechless.
Olivia was already an adult. Could she be any more childish?
Renee's face turned red with anger as she pointed at Olivia. "Olivia, pulling such childish pranks. How immature can you be?"
Olivia blinked, completely unfazed. "So what, you dare hit me?"
Renee, with her reserved nature, couldn't bring herself to act out, but she was terrified of such things. Olivia, on the other hand, deliberately used them to scare her.
"Olivia!"
Renee, fuming, waved her hand and told Isabella she was heading back to her room.
Olivia was left stunned, looking confused as Renee stormed off.
"What's her problem? It was just a little prank. Was it really worth getting so mad over?"
