Chapter 399
The next morning, Isabella called Atticus.
Atticus, sitting in his office, immediately felt a pang of worry. "Isabella, what's up? Everything okay?"
Isabella had initially wanted Atticus to come home, and hearing his concern, she decided to play along. "Actually, Uncle Atticus, something did happen."
"The new security system you installed? It totally failed. Someone broke into the house last night, and the infrared sensors didn't go off at all. If they were after Renee or me, you wouldn't be hearing my voice right now."
She made the situation sound more dire than it was.
"Are you alright? Did they catch the guy?"
After the last kidnapping scare, Atticus had upgraded their home security to military-grade. He trusted it completely. How could someone break in without setting off any alarms? It seemed impossible.
Worried, Atticus quickly stood up. "Stay put and don't go anywhere. I'm coming home right now."
After hanging up, Isabella blinked and waited for Atticus to arrive. The security and bodyguards around her were all arranged by Atticus. Olivia had been there since yesterday, so Atticus must have known. Yet, it seemed like he was deliberately avoiding her. Whenever Olivia was around, he wouldn't show up.
But if they didn't meet, how could they resolve their issues? So, she had to "trick" Atticus into coming back, making sure he and Olivia had a chance to talk things out. He couldn't keep avoiding her forever.
Meanwhile, in the guest room on the first floor, Renee had already changed her clothes. She peeked outside while whispering to Aaron, who was still getting dressed, "Hurry up, we don't want anyone to see us."
Last night's events were too outrageous, and she didn't want Isabella or Olivia to see them. They would definitely tease her.
Renee's urgency made Aaron feel like a thief. He was her boyfriend, not some secret lover. Why did they have to sneak around like this?
Or was he really that embarrassing?
"I'm not leaving!"
Aaron walked over, wrapped his arms around Renee's waist, and buried his head in her hair, inhaling her scent. Last night, Renee had been so passionate and enthusiastic, and he was still savoring the pleasure she had given him. He didn't want to let her go.
"Come on, let go of me," Renee said, getting more anxious as time passed. She was losing her patience with Aaron. "If you don't leave now, do you really want everyone to see what happened between us?"
She liked Aaron, but she couldn't guarantee their future together. She didn't want to cause him unnecessary trouble. Besides, Isabella and Olivia had left early last night. As long as Aaron didn't run into anyone, no one would know what happened.
At least, that's what she thought. Unfortunately, Isabella and Olivia had seen everything from the second floor.
"So what if they see? We're not hiding anything. What's there to be afraid of?" Aaron said casually. "We can just tell them. Mrs. Brown won't mind."
Aaron thought it was simple. He planned to marry Renee eventually, so it didn't matter if people knew now or later. Besides, he didn't like the idea of Renee hiding their relationship.
"You..."
Seeing that Renee was about to get angry, Aaron pulled her into his arms and rested his head on her shoulder, speaking softly. "Babe, don't be so heartless. We finally got together, and I don't want to be apart from you."
Renee had a soft spot for Aaron's gentle side. Seeing him act cute and clingy, her anger dissipated. She couldn't help but pat his head. "Alright, alright. It's getting late, and this isn't our place. You should go."
If they ran into Isabella and Olivia, she wouldn't know how to explain.
"Ahem!" Isabella, standing on the stairs, couldn't hold back and coughed to get their attention. The couple, who were hugging at the door, froze and looked towards the sound, seeing Isabella slowly coming down the stairs.
The three of them exchanged glances, and Isabella felt a bit awkward. She couldn't ignore them, especially since the servants and Cinda would start their work soon. If she didn't say something, the whole Wilson family would know Aaron had stayed over.
"Ms. Taylor," Renee said, blushing.
Aaron, however, didn't seem embarrassed. He confidently took Renee's hand and led her out. Isabella invited them to sit in the living room, as she had something to discuss with them.
Perhaps their relationship had deepened, as Aaron never let go of Renee's hand, even when she signaled him to. He ignored her hints, thinking, 'Why can't I hold my girlfriend's hand?'
Seeing this, Isabella decided to be direct. "Aaron, since you two are at this point, what's your plan?"
Aaron was Michael's man, but Renee lived with the Wilson family and was under Isabella's care. She couldn't just ignore this.
"Mrs. Brown, we love each other. I promise to take care of Renee for the rest of my life. As long as she agrees, we can get married anytime," Aaron said, holding Renee's hand tightly, his words more confident than the night before.
It was clear that their relationship had improved after last night. Although Isabella's expression remained neutral, she felt relieved. During Aaron's business trips, Renee often sat by the window, lost in thought. They clearly cared for each other, and now that they were together, it was a good thing.
She smiled at Renee, who was hiding behind Aaron, and raised an eyebrow. "Renee, what do you think? Do you want to give Aaron a chance?"
"Since I rescued you from the mall, I've always seen you as a sister. I'll definitely help with your marriage. Of course, I'm happy if you find your own happiness."
Just as Isabella and Aaron expected Renee to shyly nod in agreement, she surprised them by pulling her hand away from Aaron's grasp. Her expression was calm and cold as she said, "Sorry, I don't want to."
