Chapter 434
Isabella turned around, slowly lifting her head to meet his expectant gaze. "Emilio, sorry to trouble you."
Emilio's eyes lit up. "Not at all, taking you home is no problem."
Isabella forced a smile and nodded. "Alright, let's go."
Emilio quickly caught up, offering his arm for Isabella to hold. He then greeted Atticus before they left.
Outside, the Wilson Family's bodyguards were stationed, ready to escort Isabella and Emilio. Atticus had no reason to worry about their safety.
As their figures faded into the distance, the gentle expression on Atticus's face disappeared.
His eyes turned cold as he walked towards Michael's hospital room.
In the past, he had tolerated Michael out of respect for the relationship between the Brown and Wilson families and for Isabella's happiness.
He feared that if he hurt Michael, it would be Isabella who would suffer.
So he had held back.
Today, what Michael did indeed changed Atticus's opinion of him. Although he saved Isabella, a debt is a debt; the Wilson family would repay his kindness, but the fact that he bullied Isabella could not just be overlooked.
Isabella had been worried sick about him, and yet, as soon as he woke up, he made her cry.
The door was pushed open forcefully, and Atticus's tall figure appeared in the room. He took a few steps to the sofa opposite the hospital bed.
He crossed his long legs, leaned forward slightly, and stared at Michael with suppressed anger, exuding a strong sense of intimidation.
Michael didn't need to guess why Atticus was here.
Isabella's five uncles were extremely protective, especially when it came to their niece.
Knowing that he had wronged Isabella, it was already a courtesy that Atticus had waited this long to confront him.
But Atticus said nothing.
He just stared at Michael with a murderous look.
It felt like a sharp knife was hanging over Michael's head, and he never knew when it would drop and end his life.
Maybe in the next second, maybe when he wasn't paying attention.
This unknown torment was far more excruciating than any blatant threat or intimidation.
Michael knew Atticus was a former special forces soldier, and this silent interrogation was his specialty. But it was Michael who couldn't take it any longer.
He decided to speak up.
"Uncle Atticus, if you have something to say, just say it. There's no need to torture me like this."
Michael's voice was still hoarse from just waking up.
He realized that unless Atticus vented his anger, he wouldn't have any peace.
Atticus snorted coldly. "Mr. Brown, you're exaggerating. You're the Wilson Family's savior. Of course, I came to check on you. But I haven't done anything since I got here. How is that torturing you?"
"And I've reminded you more than once, you and Isabella are no longer married. You should stop calling me 'Uncle.'"
Every word Atticus said was polite, but together, they left Michael speechless.
Michael didn't want to divorce Isabella, so he wouldn't change how he addressed Atticus.
"Uncle Atticus, Isabella and I are still married, so I will continue to call you that."
Atticus's face darkened suddenly. "Michael, you need to let it go. No matter how much you cling, Isabella's never coming back to you."
Michael was so angry he almost passed out.
He took a deep breath and sat up. "Atticus, before I state my position, I want to ask you something else."
"If the Brown Group were targeted overnight and faced a crisis, would the Wilson Family step in?"
Though it was a test, only Michael knew the Brown Family was truly on the brink.
Atticus looked up at him and quickly answered.
"The Wilson Family doesn't get involved in matters that don't concern us."
Since Daniel's death, the relationship between the Wilson and Brown families had ended.
As for Michael and Isabella's marriage, her uncles had long considered it over.
They wouldn't help him; they were already being kind by not taking the opportunity to crush Michael and make him pay.
He was dreaming if he thought they would help.
"It seems my guess was right."
Michael smiled bitterly. "But I didn't expect you to be so direct, without any hesitation."
The result didn't surprise him.
Their families' connection was based on his marriage to Isabella, but he couldn't even face how he had treated her over the past three years.
How could he expect the Wilson Family to help him in his time of need?
Atticus's answer was likely out of respect for Aiden and Daniel's long friendship.
"Why hesitate? The Brown Family's issues have nothing to do with the Wilson Family. I'm just stating the facts."
Atticus's cold words made him frown. "Does this have anything to do with Isabella?"
He had heard about the Brown Group's recent turmoil. Since Isabella and Michael weren't officially divorced, any trouble with the Brown Group could affect Isabella.
He needed to inform Thomas to finalize Isabella and Michael's divorce quickly to avoid any complications.
Michael didn't answer, just lowered his head and asked another way.
"Atticus, if Isabella and I still had feelings for each other, and she cared about me, would the Wilson Family step in if the Brown Group was in trouble?"
Atticus's face turned black.
"You're delusional! After everything you've done to Isabella, you think she still has feelings for you?"
"Do you really think she is so strong that she can be hurt over and over without it mattering? She's human too. How can you expect her to stay by your side after you've broken her heart?"
Michael's ears rang.
It felt like his heart was being squeezed, making it hard to breathe.
Every word from Atticus was like a mountain pressing down on him, making him feel the weight of his guilt towards Isabella.
He knew better than anyone how much pain and suffering Isabella had endured over the years.
But he needed an answer.
He clenched his fists and took a deep breath. "Uncle Atticus, please answer my question. If we still had feelings for each other, what would Isabella do if the Brown Group was in trouble?"
Atticus was speechless.
Michael knew how to hit where it hurt.
Everyone in the Wilson Family knew that Isabella had a soft spot for Michael, despite everything.
If she found out the Brown Family was in trouble, even if she pretended not to care, she wouldn't be able to let go of Michael.
