Chapter 469

"Enough, I don't want to hear it."

Isabella cut off Aaron's rambling explanation with a frown.

She could see Michael was in trouble, but if he wasn't willing to open up, why should she keep being soft-hearted?

All she wanted was a sign of his attitude.

If he insisted on being stubborn, then fine.

She had no interest in understanding his situation any further.

"Aaron, is there anything else? If not, I'm hanging up."

Isabella was ready to end the call, but Aaron panicked on the other end, "Please, Isabella, I just want you to check on Mr. Brown. That's all."

"Is that it?" Isabella raised an eyebrow.

"Of course, it would be great if you could show some concern for Mr. Brown," Aaron added. "Even if it's not genuine, just being there would help."

"Mr. Brown just had everything taken from him by his own brother, and then he lost you. He must be feeling terrible right now."

"Is that so?"

Isabella squinted, a sly smile playing on her lips.

Her tone remained calm, "My time is valuable, Aaron. You can't expect to win me over with just a few words. Show me you're serious."

If they wanted her help, they'd have to make it worth her while.

She wasn't in the business of doing favors for free.

Especially when it came to Michael.

Aaron's plea played right into her plans.

She might as well use this to her advantage and get what she wanted.

Aaron was taken aback, "Isabella, are you saying I need to offer you something in exchange?"

He never expected that his attempt to help them reconcile would end up costing him, the middleman.

"That's right. Answer one question for me, and I'll agree to your request to visit Michael and show concern for him. How about that? If you're worried, I can even livestream it for you."

"What?"

Aaron was startled by Isabella's "generosity." "Mrs. Brown, that's not necessary. Just ask your question, and I'll answer. I'll tell you everything."

"Good."

Isabella had no intention of giving Aaron time to react.

Michael's behavior had been too strange lately.

He was ousted from the company but showed no desire to fight back. Instead, when drunk, all he talked about was her.

He hadn't mentioned the company at all.

And Atticus and Shadow's secrecy made her feel there was something she didn't know.

If Atticus and the others were deliberately hiding something from her, it wouldn't be easy to find out.

But there was someone who knew.

Aaron.

It all depended on whether Aaron was willing to reveal the truth.

As for Michael, she could visit him.

After all, he got hurt because of her, and had also gotten drunk the night before last, keeping her up all night. His injuries were probably worse now.

She couldn't help but worry about him.

"Mrs. Brown, ask away. I won't hold anything back."

It was just a small question in exchange for Isabella personally checking on Michael. That was no big deal for Aaron.

Maybe Michael would even praise Aaron for his cleverness.

Isabella narrowed her eyes and asked in a low voice, "I want to know the real reason Michael left the Brown Group!"

Aaron fell silent on the other end.

Isabella knew Aaron's nature and didn't plan to give him time to hesitate.

"Aaron, I don't want lies. Besides, no one else would know this but you. You've been his personal assistant for three years. You know his thoughts best."

Over the years, Michael had trusted Aaron a lot. If there was anything about the company, he would have Aaron handle it.

So, Aaron couldn't be unaware of the reason.

"Mrs. Brown, I..."

Aaron was startled.

He never expected Isabella to ask about the company.

He thought she would ask about Michael's feelings for her.

He had underestimated her.

But he had already spoken, and it was too late to back out.

After all, this was a company secret. If he revealed it, he could face legal consequences.

But Aaron remembered he had already sent his resignation to HR. He had no ties to the Brown Group anymore. Even if he revealed this, he wouldn't be considered a whistleblower.

"Mrs. Brown, once I tell you, don't forget your promise."

Twenty minutes later.

Aaron finally explained the schemes orchestrated by the Adri Family and Michael's silent endurance.

He also mentioned that Michael's sudden disappearance for a business trip abroad was actually for this project.

Michael had only trusted him to go, which was why he missed the critical moment when Renee was attacked.

Isabella took a deep breath after hearing this.

She understood Michael's recent odd behavior and saw through Nolan's tactics.

No wonder he had someone take those intimate photos of her and him and post them online for everyone to see.

Because he wanted more than just her.

He wanted to use this to show everyone at the Brown Group that he had her and would soon have the Wilson Family's support.

That was his real goal.

After all, Michael was the heir to the Brown Group. For Nolan to take it from him, he needed to show Aiden his capabilities and advantages.

And at this critical point, Michael had made a rookie mistake with the diamond project in Auroria.

Aiden was bound to be angry and disappointed with Michael.

Nolan's appearance at this time filled that gap, showcasing his problem-solving skills and the online buzz about his relationship with her.

Even if Aiden wasn't swayed to change heirs, the company's morale would be shaken, prompting him to consider it.

At this point, Nolan had already won.

Michael was forced out of the company, divorced her, and had no support left.

Michael was left with nothing. No chance of a comeback.

Nolan had set a grand trap.

Once he successfully resolved the mining crisis, his position as the president of the Brown Group would be secure, and no one could challenge him.

By then, even if Michael wanted to reclaim everything, he wouldn't have the chance.

"Mrs. Brown, I've told you everything. Can you go see Mr. Brown now? He really needs you right now."

Aaron deliberately made Michael sound pitiful, hoping to stir some compassion in Isabella.

He often used this trick to coax Renee, and it always worked.

So, he thought it might work on Isabella too.

"Don't worry, since I've promised, I won't go back on my word. But I have one condition."
