Chapter 472
Nolan's voice oozed with fake concern, and Michael couldn't help but chuckle coldly.
"So, should I be thanking you for your concern?"
Nolan's face stayed blank as he sipped his coffee. "You're my brother. Isn't it natural for me to worry about your safety?"
Michael had no patience for Nolan's hypocritical words. "Cut the crap. You've done what you came to do. Don't you find it disgusting to keep up this act? But don't worry, I'm not here to settle scores today. I'm just here to grab some of my personal stuff."
Michael smirked. If Nolan was so eager to be the CEO of the Brown Group, he could have it. Michael had bigger fish to fry. He was actually relieved to have someone else handle the company's affairs.
Nolan could see that Michael didn't want to stick around. He felt the same way about his brother. With a wave, he said, "Go ahead and pack your things."
As Michael reached the door to the break room, he heard Nolan's voice behind him. "By the way, this office is getting renovated soon. Make sure you take everything with you, or I won't be responsible for anything that gets lost."
Michael snorted. Nolan couldn't wait even a minute. The seat wasn't even warm yet, and he was already planning renovations. And he claimed he had no ambition?
Michael raised an eyebrow and replied, "Don't worry, I'll take everything that's mine."
He entered the break room and began packing his things into several large boxes. Since Isabella had returned to the Wilson Family, Michael had practically lived at the office, so there was a lot to pack.
Once he was done, he placed the boxes in front of Nolan and dusted off his hands. "Everything's here. You know where I live. Make sure it gets sent to my place."
With that, he walked out, not intending to carry the boxes himself. For one, his current situation was sensitive. If Nolan accused him of taking confidential information, their grandfather would drag him back for a lecture. Secondly, he wanted to annoy Nolan.
Nolan always tried to block his every move. If Nolan liked digging into his business, Michael would give him plenty to dig through. Six large boxes-anyone would think he was moving.
Nolan's expression finally cracked. Michael had come just to provoke him.
When Ruby entered and saw the boxes, she was momentarily stunned. "Mr. Brown, what should we do with these?"
Nolan gritted his teeth, swallowing his anger. "Send them to Michael's place."
Michael had anticipated that Nolan wouldn't let him take anything from the office easily, so he left the boxes in plain sight. If Nolan went through them, the headlines would be about how the CEO couldn't trust his own brother.
But Michael had packed the boxes right under Nolan's nose. If there was anything confidential, he wouldn't have left it so openly. Nolan couldn't guess that Michael's real purpose was to distract him. What Michael truly wanted to take was already on him. The boxes were just a decoy.
Meanwhile, in Auroria, Aaron and Renee's plan was in motion. Aaron had arranged a private jet ready to fly back home. He thought Renee's request was for their escape route. But on the day, Renee had someone quickly board the plane-a frail person with an oxygen mask. Aaron didn't even get a good look at them.
He didn't have time to wonder who it was. He needed to get Renee out, but the Adri Family had discovered their plan. Renee, a researcher for the organization, had returned after a series of events, and no one suspected her. But she used their trust to move her family and then planned to escape.
The Adri Family hated betrayal and issued a kill order for Renee. Aaron, as her boyfriend, couldn't stand by.
A gunshot rang out. Aaron's first instinct was to push Renee to safety and dodge. He was grazed by the bullet, blood trickling down his forehead. He realized the Adri Family was serious about eliminating them.
"Are you okay?" Renee rushed to him, checking his wound.
"I'm fine, just a scratch." Aaron reassured her, "Renee, am I also a target?"
Renee nodded solemnly. "Yes, the Adri Family doesn't spare traitors. Even if you're not one of them, if you obstruct their plans, you're eliminated. And with Michael out of power, they won't hesitate."
Aaron took a deep breath, sensing something was off. How did the Adri Family get such precise information? It was as if someone high up in the Brown Group was in constant contact with them. Only Nolan could have known about his resignation, yet Aaron hadn't been notified.
In that moment, Aaron realized the truth. The mole in the Brown Group was Nolan himself. He had to inform Michael.
