Chapter 474

Before Renee could figure out who the person was, they vanished right before her eyes.

At that moment, Aaron collapsed from exhaustion.

Luckily, Isabella had sent a boat with a doctor on board. When they saw Renee hadn't come aboard, they went to find her.

"Quick, he's been shot! Help him, please!" Renee shouted.

She helped lift Aaron with the doctor and got him onto the boat.

Right now, she couldn't think about anything else. All she wanted was for Aaron to be safe.

She couldn't lose him.

On the yacht, Aaron was immediately taken in for emergency surgery.

The team Isabella had sent was meant for emergencies, and they ended up saving Aaron's life at a critical moment.

After the bullet was removed, Aaron fell into a coma.

The medical equipment on the boat was limited, and they were short on medication. They could only stabilize Aaron's condition until they returned home for a full hospital check-up.

Watching Aaron lying in bed with an IV, Renee finally felt a bit of relief.

Thank goodness they made it out.

Otherwise, she would never forgive herself.

But then, Renee remembered the familiar figure on the rooftop. She had definitely seen that person before.

She had no friends here, only colleagues from the organization.

If that person was from the organization, why did they save her?

What was the reason?

She couldn't figure it out.

She couldn't even precisely identify who that person was.

Renee furrowed her brow, unable to make sense of it.

What she didn't know was that as the yacht left the dock, the man who had disappeared from the rooftop was now standing at the port, watching the boat sail away.

Until it became a dot.

The man pulled off his mask, touched the gun he held, and muttered to himself.

"She's gone. She might never come back. From now on, it's just you and me. She has good taste in men. That guy was willing to take a bullet for her. He must love her a lot. After all these years, she finally found her happiness. Do you think I owe her a blessing?"

Three hours into the voyage, Aaron regained consciousness, but only for a moment before falling back asleep.

Renee knew he was worried about her, so she stayed by his side without leaving.

She kept whispering in his ear, telling him she was safe.

But she didn't tell Aaron that when she saw him take a bullet for her, she was filled with fear and panic. Her first thought was that she didn't want him to do that.

She didn't want him to die for her.

She couldn't even bear to think about that moment.

Just the thought of Aaron possibly leaving her made her heart ache so much she could hardly breathe.

Holding his hand tightly, Renee was just grateful that Aaron was still with her.

It was so good to have him by her side.

After this incident, any resentment or anger she had towards Aaron vanished.

She didn't hate him. She was just concerned about his attitude towards her.

She thought he didn't want to deal with her, using work as an excuse to avoid her calls.

After all, having a girlfriend constantly being hunted was terrifying for anyone.

Even if they forced themselves to stay together, they would eventually part ways.

But now, none of her fears had come true.

When the bullet came, Aaron protected her without a second thought. He was willing to risk his life to keep her safe.

If that didn't prove his love, what would?

She wouldn't doubt him anymore.

In this lifetime, Renee was sure about him.

Just then, Renee's phone rang.

"Renee, your mom's place is all set. No one will know she's there. You can rest easy," the voice on the other end said.

"Thank you. I really appreciate it," Renee replied, gripping her phone and closing her eyes.

She had come back because she couldn't leave her mom alone. But she hadn't expected the Adri Family to actually control her mom, locking her up in a secluded place.

Her mom had fallen ill from missing her, and by the time Renee returned, her mom was already sick and frail.

Determined to take her mom away, Renee had to pretend to willingly return to the Adri Family.

She followed all their orders, waiting for them to lower their guard before executing her plan.

Now her mom was safe, but Aaron lay unconscious.

Both of them were the people she loved most, and seeing either of them hurt broke her heart.

If she could, she would rather be the one injured.

She reached out to touch Aaron's face, gazing at every inch of his skin.

When she decided to return to Auroria, she had planned to break up with Aaron.

That night of passion was her last indulgence.

But she never expected that after being rejected and humiliated, Aaron would rush to the airport to come back with her.

She couldn't deny she was moved.

But now, her concern and love for him were real.

That night, Aaron's body suddenly became burning hot, and his temperature spiked to 104 degrees.

Renee, sitting by his side, felt his heat and quickly called for the doctor.

The doctor examined him, gave him a shot to reduce the fever, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Nothing serious. His injuries are severe, and the fever is just a post-surgery complication. It should go down soon."

"Will he be okay?" Renee asked, her heart pounding with anxiety.

The doctor glanced at the time. "If he wakes up within twelve hours, he'll be out of danger. If he doesn't wake up by then, we'll have to use other medications to stimulate him, but it's best to avoid those if possible."

With that, the doctor left.

Renee, a biology expert herself, understood the implications of the doctor's words better than anyone.

Those medications had severe side effects, but when it came to life and death, they seemed insignificant.

But she didn't want Aaron to need those drugs. She believed he could pull through.

Renee stayed awake all night, checking Aaron's temperature every hour.

Thankfully, his fever didn't return, but he remained unconscious.

No matter how much she called out to him, he didn't respond.

The next day, sunlight filtered through the windows of the yacht's cabin.

Renee, exhausted, fell asleep holding Aaron's hand.

In her dream, she saw Aaron getting shot. Suddenly, her hand was gripped tightly and pulled forward.

A familiar, hoarse voice broke the silence. "Renee! Renee, you have to go!"
