Chapter 478
Isabella had already made up her mind.
She sighed, "Don't worry. If that day ever comes, we'll deal with it the right way. I won't protect anyone who's guilty."
She knew Nolan well.
Once he set his mind on something, he wouldn't turn back.
Even if it was a mistake, even if there was an abyss ahead, he would walk into it without hesitation.
So, she didn't try to persuade anyone.
When she couldn't make a choice, she would leave it to the law and justice.
Hearing this, Aaron finally felt a sense of relief.
Isabella, like Michael, was someone who meant what she said and would never go back on her word.
Once they made up their minds, they wouldn't soften their stance.
Aaron was stuck in the hospital and couldn't go anywhere, so some things had to be entrusted to someone he trusted completely.
When it came to Michael's future and career, Isabella was the best choice.
"Before you came, I contacted the security office at the Brown Group. They don't know I've submitted my resignation yet and have agreed to copy the surveillance footage from the CEO's office for this month. Now we need someone to go pick it up."
Given the company's confidentiality and the fact that it was the CEO's office surveillance, the security team wouldn't hand it over to just anyone.
But Aaron was seriously injured and couldn't go himself.
Among the few people they could trust at the Brown Group, Isabella was the most suitable.
First, Isabella was well-known online; everyone recognized her.
Second, even though she was divorced, she was still Michael's ex-wife, so they had a close relationship.
Understanding Aaron's intention and not wanting any further complications, Isabella agreed immediately.
"Alright, I'll go."
"Great."
Aaron's eyes lit up with joy. He knew Isabella still cared about Michael.
To avoid the footage being intercepted, Isabella left the hospital and headed straight to the Brown Group.
Thanks to Aaron's thorough planning, she received a pre-copied USB drive from the security office as soon as she arrived.
Since it was a month's worth of footage, they needed to carefully search for useful clues.
None of them had much experience with reviewing surveillance footage.
So, they had to work together.
Aaron identified the timeframe when the project files went missing, and Isabella and Olivia took turns reviewing the footage frame by frame on the computer.
Renee had to take care of the patients, so she couldn't help.
They worked until evening but still hadn't found any leads.
Olivia's eyes were sore from staring at the screen, but when she looked up, she saw Isabella still intently watching the footage on another computer.
They had been at it for five hours straight. Seeing Isabella's red eyes, Olivia felt a pang of sympathy.
She knew Isabella was doing this to help Michael, but seeing her friend work so hard made her heart ache.
In a dimly lit apartment, the only light came from the computer screen casting a blue glow across the room.
Michael lit a cigarette.
Wisps of smoke rose, highlighting his furrowed brow.
After leaving Nolan's place, he had come to this rarely used apartment and started reviewing the surveillance footage he had taken from his office.
He had gone to the company to retrieve this internal surveillance footage.
He had installed the camera a long time ago, originally to monitor important documents and the safe.
If it weren't for Nolan's tactics, he would have forgotten about it.
He hadn't expected it to be so useful now.
The camera was aimed directly at the safe. If anyone had messed with it, he'd have them on video.
Not wanting to miss anything suspicious, Michael combed through the footage frame by frame.
Time crawled. Michael's initially alert posture gradually slumped as his eyes strained and his muscles cramped.
As darkness fell outside, he lost track of how many hours he'd been at it.
Then suddenly, there it was-a shadowy figure moving across the screen that didn't belong.
The person was dressed in gray sweats, wearing a hat and mask, completely covered.
From the footage, only their back was visible.
Before Michael could scrutinize the person, he was shocked by what he saw next.
The man quickly took two documents from the safe, opened the top one, signed it, and stamped it with the company's seal.
This explained why Michael had found a document with the company seal in the safe.
Clearly, this man was the culprit who had framed Michael.
He had forged Michael's signature and handwriting, entered Michael's office, and stolen the document.
But who was this person?
How did he get in, and how did he know the safe's secret?
Michael paused the footage and zoomed in on the figure, feeling a familiar vibe.
This person looked a lot like Nolan.
But the next second, Michael dismissed the thought.
Nolan was wheelchair-bound and needed it to get around. This person moved too freely to be him.
Michael leaned back on the couch, frustrated. He had found a clue but couldn't identify the person.
He couldn't use it as evidence either.
Just as Michael was about to light another cigarette, his phone rang.
It was Aaron.
"Michael, I'm back in the country."
Aaron's voice was hoarse and weak, and Michael immediately sensed something was wrong.
"Are you hurt?"
"Yeah, but it's nothing serious. The doctor said I just need to rest for a while. Michael, can you come to the hospital? I have something important to discuss, and it's not convenient over the phone."
As he spoke, Aaron glanced at Isabella, who nodded in agreement, allowing him to relax.
He wanted Michael to come not just for the company's matters but also to create an opportunity for Michael and Isabella to spend time together.
Michael knew Aaron wouldn't say such things lightly, so he agreed without hesitation.
"Alright, send me the location. I'll be there."
Michael grabbed his coat and headed out.
Recently, he had been under constant surveillance in the country, making it difficult to investigate anything. Now that Aaron was back with important news, he had to go.
When Michael arrived at the hospital, he opened the door to see Aaron sitting on the bed, with Renee by his side, caring for him.
They were huddled close together, hands intertwined, exchanging whispers that gave way to shared smiles.
It was as if they existed in their own little bubble, oblivious to everything else.
