Chapter 109

It was already late at night. Benjamin had ordered a meal from a five-star hotel, making sure it was a portion suitable for a pregnant woman. He couldn't eat as he just had surgery. Winnie, feeling bad, turned away from him and began eating.

At that moment, a staff member brought in a comfortable bedside table and placed it right next to his hospital bed. Winnie turned around in surprise. "Mr. Rodriguez, don't you plan to hire a nurse?"

"Why would I hire a nurse when I have you? Do you think money grows on tree?" The man closed his eyes, his lips pale.

Winnie quietly agreed with him. It wasn't a big deal for her, as she didn't mind sleeping in a single bed and staying in the hospital room for a few nights. It was just a bit inconvenient, especially when she went to the bathroom.

Despite being legally married, they were not intimate, and their feelings for each other were still evolving. The prospect made her feel a deep sense of shyness.

Mr. Rodriguez cast a glance at her, his eyes lingering on the pregnant woman, and gently patted the bed weakly. "Have you finished eating? Hurry up and sleep next to me. Lie down beside me. I'm in pain."

Winnie reluctantly took a few more bites of her meal and got into bed promptly, afraid that he would be in pain. She was concerned for his comfort.

Under the moonlight, she drifted into sleep almost instantly. He observed her peaceful face while she slept, reflecting on her caring gestures despite being pregnant. Tonight, the pregnant woman in his bed seemed unusually weary, her face tinged with a touch of fatigue evident in her expression. He didn't have the heart to ask anything more of her.

The man frowned, enduring the pain discomfort without making a sound, not even when he turned over. Not hearing him crying out in pain all night, Winnie finally had a good sleep after several restless nights.

In the morning, she was woken up by the man's firm and low voice, engaged in conversation as he was explaining something to someone.

In a daze, Winnie opened her eyes and saw several of his subordinates stood around his bed, along withs several police officers.

His subordinates sneakily cast glances at the young woman asleep on the bed beside Mr. Rodriguez. The woman's face, blushing, was partially visible by the CEO's bedside.

"Mr. Rodriguez, we have identified the individual who stabbed you. He is the son of the deceased worker at the Z City Bay Project. You didn't offer condolences that day, which may have caused his dissatisfaction. The local manager covered up the matter to please you, so he offered the deceased worker's family a low compensation. That was what led the son to cause trouble and seek revenge on you."

"How did he track Winnie?" Mr. Rodriguez's gaze was as sharp as a blade.

Upon hearing his inquiry about the events of the previous night, Winnie frowned and spoke from beneath the covers, "It's concerning because our relationship isn't widely known, Mr. Rodriguez. Last night, I was coerced into the construction site by a motorcyclist."

Luke pondered. "Is it possible that the deceased worker's son planned to trick Ms. Winnie into the construction site to lure you there for revenge? However, how did he find out about Ms. Winnie? Did he see her with you while he was stalking you?"

Mr. Rodriguez realized that they had indeed been together out in public, walking around and eating hot dogs together. Winnie naturally thought of the same, but she still felt that something was off.

At that moment, the police officer remarked, "The assailant is skilled and extremely dangerous. He remains at large. Given your injuries, the police station is hopeful that Ms. Winnie can assist in drawing him out."

"No way! You are responsible for apprehending criminals. You have three days to catch him. You're dismiss!" Mr. Rodriguez ordered sternly, leaving a chilling atmosphere that silenced the police officers. They promptly exited the room.

Turning to Luke, Mr. Rodriguez instructed, "Arrange for more bodyguards to be at the hospital. Ms. Winnie should have protection with her at all times."

Luke nodded.

At that moment, Mr. Rodriguez pulled back the nearby blanket and looked at the woman's flushed face.

He raised an eyebrow and said, "How obedient of you to be hiding like this."

Winnie fidgeted with the blanket, and Luke quickly turned away.

When Winnie put on her coat, Mr. Rodriguez immediately lowered his gaze. He pressed his pale lips together and softly stated said, "I need to use the bathroom."

It seemed like he have been waiting for her to wake up all morning just to say this.

Winnie was speechless. She didn't think it was okay to hold one's urine for so long. He could have asked his assistant to help him.

He continued, "I couldn't sleep all night because of the pain." It was all for the sake of saving her that he got injured.

Winnie got off the bed, willing to do whatever it took. Luke couldn't stand bear to watch Mr. Rodriguez anymore.

It's just that the bathroom situation was really inconvenient last night. Winnie blushed and took out an unopened chamber pot. "Moving about like this is not good for your wound. Can you do it on the bed?"

With some reluctance, Mr. Rodriguez furrowed his brow and said, "All right, come here."

Winnie approached cautiously and Luke sensibly turned away. She bent down and lifted the blanket but couldn't see anything so she had to get closer.

Right at that instant, a team of medical professionals entered the room, headed by the surgeon from the previous night. "Mr. Rodriguez, I've arrived for the rounds. Oh dear! If my presence is inconvenient at the moment, feel free to proceed, and we'll exit the room."

Winnie looked at the situation she had put herself into with Mr. Rodriguez. She really wanted to just die. She knew she was being misunderstood again.

As the group of doctors were about to leave, Dr. Martin kindly offered some advice. "Both of you must understand that caution must be taken especially after surgery. Please refrain from any strenuous activity including being intimate. This is very detrimental to recovery and considering Ms. Winnie's pregnancy"

"Doctor, you've got it wrong!" Winnie shouted, before the doctor could finish his sentence. Benjamin had surely spread the gossip and she seriously doubted that she was now the most famous woman in the hospital.

The doctor cast a quick glance at Winnie, whose face had turned as red as a beet. At that very moment, a cluster of female medical interns near the door murmured, "This woman is incredibly fortunate. She claimed it was a misunderstanding, but I distinctly witnessed what they were up to just now."

Winnie lowered her head. Her face was turned even redder, a shade of red that rivaled a tomato and quickly moved the chamber pot away.

The man grabbed it, his gaze deep. "You haven't helped me pee yet."

After closing the door with a group of doctors outside, she heard him hoarsely said, "You must be almost four months pregnant."

His gaze burned into her face and to not so obvious belly. His words were caught in his throat and Winnie couldn't decipher what he was trying to convey.

She ran into the bathroom to hide.

At that moment, Luke knocked on the door and handed her the phone. "Ms. Winnie, Mr. Rodriguez said he is returning this to you."

Her phone which had been taken away for so many days. As she held it again, Winnie felt a surge of resentment and silently turned her head to look at the bed.

The man reclined with his eyes closed. In that moment, Winnie began to fathom the situation a bit better. It occurred to her that if she had been more flirtatious and compliant earlier, she might not have endured being confined for so many days. Though he seemed to regret it the previous night, he refrained from vocalizing it. After all, he was a proud and reserved man.

Winnie immediately opened her phone and found numerous missed calls from the company, Olivia and Daniel. She deleted all of Daniel's calls to avoid Mr. Rodriguez nagging at her.

She contacted Olivia on Facebook, who already knew that she had almost gotten into trouble the previous night and had been saved by Mr. Rodriguez. Olivia kept praising her on Facebook. "A man who can risk his life to save you must be the right one, sister, go ahead and love confidently."

It appeared as if Olivia still didn't know that she had been forbidden to leave for six days. She was surprised that Olivia was of it.

However, Winnie recalled a crucial matter and frowned as she replied Olivia, "Olivia, did you hear about the Dazzling Party from Jeremy?"

"Why do you think I would have any connection to Mr. DeRoss?" Olivia was particularly bewildered, sensing that she had offended Jeremy significantly but couldn't figure out why.

"Someone told me that you almost got into trouble at the party, Winnie. It seemed that recently you've had a lot of misfortunes."

Olivia's sentence seemed to enlighten Winnie and it suddenly sparked an idea in her mind about something.

She narrowed her eyes. On the night of the incident, she had a suspect in mind.

"There's something fishy about that party. It's not that as straightforward as it seems. Mr. Taylor was used by someone. Please help me carefully analyze the surveillance footage from that night to see if we can find anything."

"Sure." Olivia immediately was on board with the task. Just then, a commotion came from outside the hospital room.
