Chapter 364

Lawrence, with a murderous gaze, slowly glanced at Mars in the crowd and let out a cold laugh.

The fiercely determined man was taken away by the police. A group of high-level executives from Island Electronics, including Bryan, followed closely behind.

A commotion had erupted at the press conference as the event goers buzzed with chaos.

"What's wrong with Island Electronics? The chip has a problem, and now Lawrence is being accused of bribery!"

"He has an immense influence in Lymington, unable to clean his image!"

"Oh my god, one wave after another, Island Electronics is doomed!"

"The stocks of Island Electronics started plummeting, so I quickly sold the stocks."

"Yes, it looks like the company is going to have big problems."

As discussions continued, Bob furrowed his brow, and the directors of the Rodriguez family, who were standing behind him, shook their heads as they discussed among themselves.

"Bob still hasn't sent out his companies, and Lawrence is already causing so many issues."

"He's still young and stationed in Lymington. There's still some distance before he can take over the Rodriguez family in Trento City."

Given the directors' stance, Bob found himself unable to offer assistance and could only rely on Lawrence to handle the matter. Simultaneously, he sought to evaluate Lawrence's capabilities. He then glanced coldly at Winnie, whom he didn't know but had guessed was the one who caused the trouble. She even hindered him from recognizing Lawrence. He was extremely displeased.

In the crowd, Mars took out his phone and glanced at the overwhelming negative news about Island Electronics, causing the stocks to plummet. Then, he saw Bob's displeased expression. He smirked, feeling relieved. This illegitimate son, Lawrence, wanted to return to Trento City and replace him as the heir of the Rodriguez family. Well, Lawrence would have to compete against him for that.

As his phone rang, he walked to a quiet place to answer it, smiling wickedly with his evil eyes. "Madam, don't worry. With me taking action, Lawrence won't be able to leave the police station even if Bob frowns upon his wedding and hasn't sent his companies yet. Recognizing his son? That depends on whether Lawrence can come out of the interrogation room."

Hellen or also known as Mrs. Rodriguez, who was far away in Trento City, curled her lips when she heard this. "Mars, well done. If he doesn't come back, your position within the Rodriguez family won't be shaken."

"Hellen, we're in this together." Mars ended the call with a light laugh. Winnie had done him a great favor, and Lawrence would have a hard time avoiding imprisonment this time.

He then called his subordinate. "While Lawrence is being interrogated, let's secure deals with Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy, and I'll say that I have the latest chip technology in my hands."

He wanted to leave Lawrence with no way out.

Late at night, Winnie came out of the police station after assisting with the investigation. Alan was leaning by the door and immediately asked with mixed emotions, "You really went all out. Well, Lawrence has been arrested now. What did the police ask you?"

"Just routine questions."

"You didn't set up Lawrence, did you?"

"When did I deceive him?" Winnie replied enigmatically, smiling coldly.

Ray rushed forward angrily and asked, "You're in charge of the jewelry exhibition project. Didn't you harm Lawrence? What was that expression on his face when he was arrested? I've never seen such a wicked woman like you. If something happens to Lawrence, we won't let you off!"

Winnie couldn't be bothered to speak and simply sneered before walking away.

"Look at her attitude," Ray scoffed.

"All right, Ray. Weren't you here to find a lawyer for Darcy?" Benjamin pushed him helplessly. "You go. Jeremy and I will attend to Lawrence's side."

At 1 am, the top executives of Island Electronics and Bryan waited outside the interrogation room. Inside the room, the prosecutor was relatively polite to Lawrence, allowing him to have his phone and cigarettes. The man sat up straight, emanating an aura of coldness and ruthlessness.

Half an hour ago, the investigators found a "suspicious document" in his office, allegedly hidden in a drawer. At that moment, Lawrence once again felt the heart-wrenching sensation he experienced three years ago when Winnie harmed his company. Again and again, he fell into the woman's trap. It was his own foolishness, his inability to resist temptation.

With clenched fists, he knew that once the "evidence" was solid, Mars would use Winnie to shift the blame onto him. He would be in big trouble then. The last glimmer of hope in his eyes faded away.

He hated Winnie to the bone.

The door of the interrogation room swung open, and the police officer entered, holding the document with a perplexed expression on his face. "Mr. Rodriguez, you can go now."

Lawrence was taken aback, raising his cold gaze.

"You're innocent."

"What?" He was stunned, staring sharply at the document.

The prosecutor laid out the document in front of him. "The document is indeed problematic, but many pages are missing. We couldn't find any hidden provisions of your bribery to the officials. And just now, Winnie couldn't provide any evidence of your dealings with the officials during her interrogation. So, we have no way to hold you. You can go." The prosecutor crossed his arms, sitting on the chair with discontent, watching Lawrence.

...

On the perfectly chiseled features of the man's face, an expression momentarily flickered. In the deep coldness of his eyes, a faint disbelief emerged. So, the document was a bribery document. He was almost guilty, but because someone tore off the crucial pages, the evidence was insufficient and he was innocent again.

His expression shifted a few times, and a spark of calculation gleamed in his eyes. In other words, that person initially wished him to be guilty, but then hesitated and tore up the evidence.

Last night, she nervously stood by his desk. At that time, she was guilty and afraid that he would find out so she tempted him. Afterward, things became complicated, and he fell asleep for a while. When he woke up, Winnie was standing outside the resting room, prompting him to wonder about her actions and thoughts during that period.

Winnie, the damned woman. She couldn't bring herself to do it. She wanted to harm him, to seek revenge, but in the end, she couldn't bear it. Her heart had softened.

As Lawrence stood up, his jaw clenched, and he fiercely licked his lips. He felt an intense fire melting through his icy reserve, burning fiercely within him. This fire revived his cold heart, causing his blood to surge and restlessly stir.

"Thank you," he said and rushed out. He turned back, lips curving into a smile that was neither a smile nor a smirk. "This document holds great significance to me. May I take it with me?" he asked.

Lawrence was owed a favor, and the police officer nodded. "This is a copy, you can take it."

As he held the document tightly in his hand, he felt a slight dampness forming on his large palm. He walked out of the police station, under the dim moonlight scattered with sparse stars, shimmering in a cool color palette, reminiscent of Winnie's inscrutable eyes that he couldn't penetrate three years later.

Bright and dark, sometimes sorrowful and sometimes joyful, she never showed a hint of vulnerability beneath her facade. However, thanks to the events that had unfolded earlier, he finally saw through her façade.

He lit two cigarettes in a row and smiled deeply with a profound gaze. Bryan ran over and was horrified to see Mr. Rodriguez smiling like a fool. It had been a very turbulent day. In the afternoon, when Mr. Rodriguez was taken away, he had looked as if he wanted to kill Winnie. Bryan wondered why he was smiling now.

Confused and astonished, Bryan pointed at the police station. "Mr. Rodriguez, the police just said you can leave. You've only been here for less than three hours. Is everything all right now?"

"Do you want something to happen to me?" the man replied coldly with a fleeting glance.

"What are you saying? Can I hope for Lawrence to collapse so I'll lose millions in salary as his assistant?" Bryan's mouth twitched as he cautiously asked, "Did the bribery charges not hold up?"

"Yeah." Lawrence flicked the cigarette butt aside and raised an eyebrow. "I'm lucky. Go get the car ready."

He wished he could rush over and find Winnie to question her clearly.
