Chapter 462
Having a gangster teach an abusive man to be a good person? That's undoubtedly one of the most absurd and hilarious headlines ever.
But it might just work.
That's what Jake thought as he struggled to show Daniel the ropes of being a good guy.
"Let me figure out what a good person would do." Jake glanced at the tied-up Daniel, scratching his head with a pen in frustration.
At first, when Isabella assigned Jake the task, he wasn't thrilled about it. But Isabella made him an offer he couldn't refuse. She was just too generous.
Jake glanced at Daniel, tied up with a rag in his mouth, then turned to his sidekick with irritation.
"What's the deal with being a good person?" Jake asked, genuinely curious.
His sidekick pondered for a moment and suggested, "Maybe we're seen as the bad guys by everyone else, so all we gotta do is the opposite of our usual stuff to be seen as good?"
Jake paused, feeling a bit silly for even asking that question!
"So, if we just do the opposite of what we usually do, we'll be good guys?" Jake looked at his sidekick, puzzled.
His sidekick nodded enthusiastically.
Jake rubbed his chin, thinking about their usual activities.
"We usually brawl, extort money, take over turf, swear, hit, drink, gamble, hustle, stir up trouble, do drugs, drive under the influence, and race on the streets..." Jake listed all their shady activities.
His sidekick counted the list of misdeeds, running out of fingers and toes.
Finally, Jake clapped his hands decisively, excitement gleaming in his eyes. "I got it! I know what we gotta do next!"
Jake turned to Daniel and yanked the rag from his mouth.
Daniel looked at Jake with pleading eyes. "Jake, I messed up. I don't even know what I did wrong, but please, don't mess with me, okay?"
Jake smacked Daniel's head in frustration. "Who's messing around? Do you know how much I gotta handle in a day? I'm swamped!"
"If you're so busy, why not just cut me loose? I never signed up to be a good guy. Heck, I'm not even a bad guy," Daniel said bitterly.
Jake smacked Daniel's head again. "Don't act innocent! I heard you hit up your daughter for cash! Even though I've done that too, I'm a villain! You begged a lady for money, so you're a villain too! And I heard you laid hands on your wife. Sure, I hit women too, but I'm a villain! So, you're a villain too, right?"
Daniel, now twice smacked by Jake, felt dazed and nodded unconsciously. "You're right, I guess I am a villain."
Jake smacked Daniel's head once more. "You are a villain, so now I gotta transform you into a good guy. That means no more bad stuff!"
Daniel felt like Jake must have fried his brain from smoking too much weed. A gangster trying to teach someone to be a decent person? It sounded like a joke, but Daniel didn't want to face Jake's wrath, so he just nodded along.
"Yeah, Jake, I messed up. I won't ask my daughter for money or lay a hand on my wife again. I'll try to be a good guy." Daniel eyed Jake cautiously, hoping he'd stick to his word and set him free.
But Jake's next words crushed Daniel's hopes. "Nah, Daniel, you got it wrong. Being a good guy means more than just not hitting your wife or asking your daughter for money. You gotta quit drinking, stop driving drunk, steer clear of drugs, watch your language, no hustling, no causing trouble, follow traffic rules, mind your manners, return lost cash, and donate to charity." Jake's demands left Daniel pale. His standards for goodness were off the charts, even down to how many squares of toilet paper to use.
"Are you trying to turn me into a saint or the president? Even presidents have their scandals, right?" Daniel grumbled, only to be met with Jake's whip.
Jake lashed out at Daniel, causing him to cry out in pain.
"Questioning my authority, huh, bad guy Daniel?" Jake's eyes turned cold, a hint of menace in his gaze.
Tears streaming from the whipping, Daniel looked at Jake and whimpered, "Aren't we talking about being a good guy? Why are you hitting me?"
Jake whipped Daniel again. "I want you to be good, not me. Starting tomorrow. No, starting now."
In agony from the lashes, Daniel shuddered but didn't dare argue with Jake.
"Okay, Jake, I get it. I'll try to be good. What's next?" Daniel asked, his voice trembling.
This question caught Jake off guard as he hadn't thought about the specifics of being good. But as the boss, he couldn't show any weakness.
After a moment of contemplation, Jake came up with a plan. "From today, you'll shadow my crew. Do what they do. Eat, sleep, live with them. And remember, no snoring at night, no disturbing their peace!"
Daniel's lips twitched. He knew he snored, but he kept quiet.
"Got it, Jake," Daniel nodded, swallowing his pride. Little did he know that a new Daniel, a good guy, would emerge that day.
That night, Daniel struggled to sleep. Jake's crew snored loudly, keeping him awake. He wanted to snore too but feared the consequences.
Enduring the night, Daniel, fighting off sleep, joined Jake's crew the next day for community service.
